Solved 4TB SSD Won't expect data transfer

Hi, I recently purchased a 4TB SSD. I am having issues with transferring data over from a smaller 2TB HDD. The plan is to copy 2TB of data to a new 2.5TB partition on the 4TB drive, using FastCopy Pro. However, every time I get to around 110GB, the 4 TB drive gives me this error message: (CreateFile(The system cannot find the path specified).
When using Explorer, I get this message.
An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue
to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this
problem.
Error 0x800701 B1: A device which does not exist was specified.

Thinking it may be a fake drive, I ran the drive first as an internal drive;

Here is what I have checked when set up as a 4TB as internal
CrystalDiskInfo reported no issues
H2TESTW Reports no issues
Hard Disk Sentinel Pro reported no issues

So either this is a very good fake, or it's genuine, and my system has a problem transferring data to it.

I don't want to return it if it is something I am doing wrong.

When I check the drive's status in Device Manager, it shows up as just "SSD 4TB," with no name or drive details. When I check Events, I get this message.

I have tried reformatting, deleting the partition, and deleting the volume on the drive using Disk Management, as well as 4DDiG Partition Manager and AOMEI Partition Assistant Technician Edition, but I still end up with the same error.

Could this migration issue be what's causing the drive to refuse data transfer, and how do I fix it?

Maybe I missed it. What brand and model did you think you bought and from where?

I didn't work with so large SSD, but similarly copied an old 512GB SSD to new 1TB. I used Macrium Reflect to copy the original partition as is and then used Disk Management in Windows to expand the copied partition to all SSD size. Such approach may work in your case as well.

Apart from using Macrium Reflect or similar utility to clone (1:1 copy) the whole drive on the new disk, when I manually copy files I too can get an error. The workaround is to copy a few folders at a time. Don't select all downloads, for example. Select 10-15 folders or up to 50 individual files and then copy some more. Also a third-party utility might be better for the job. Occasionally I use Ultra Copier (I think that's the name).

There is a chance that your SSD is defective. Try this first.

Right-click FastCopy and select "Run as administrator"

Please open disk management. Expand the columns so all the info can be seen. Then post a copy of disk managment here. Tell us which existing partition you are trying to copy.
Tell us what you bought and where you purchased it from.

I will say that we have had a number of folks who have been bilked by buying those cheap knockoff large drives from nefarious sources.

Are you trying to move data or the Windows OS to the new drive? I'm thinking from Post #1 that your moving data. First off I wouldn't use the move files option, I would use copy files instead. Once done you can delete the unwanted data. On my computers I use either Fast Copy or TeraCopy to move large data files and never had a problem like yours. Could you try breaking up your file transfer into smaller transfers and see if you can move them that way? If not I going with the suggestions that the new drive is defective.

Open the manufacturers utility and verify it's legit. Also check the disk health section and update firmware while in there. Hopefully its not a zamzung drive

How much of the 4TB drive did you test? Certainly you didn't test the whole 4TB because it would have taken all day with H2TESTW. Did you test at least 500GB?

BTW, why did you create a 2.5TB partition? You are wasting space that way.

Also, 4TB drives costs $400 ~ $1000 US. Is that how much you paid?

Thanks, everyone, for your input. I managed to get the drive to migrate by running a system restore/repair; however, that made no difference, so I have requested a return refund.

Wise move, I doubt you'll get this to work properly.

There is a slim chance that the disk was OK but incompatible with the computer. I remember when the first SATA 2.5" SSDs were available that the very cheap unknown brands would not work on all laptops. They could not be detected properly. You had to replace them with a more well known brand and more expensive. In any case returning the disk to the shop and get a replacement is the best option.

Thanks for the suggestion, spapkons. I did think that, so I tried it on another desktop and a laptop, with the same outcome. I have now abandoned the idea of 2 x 4TB and installed an 8TB 3.5.

At the price of silicon these days they're probably happier to refund you the money. Of course, if it really is a scam operation they will soon be found out.

That's why it's not worth it to have that large SSD yet. You can have a smaller and cheaper one as your primary drive, such as 1TB or even 500MB, and have a second larger mechanical disk for your data. In my PC I have a 1TB SSD for Windows, a 6TB disk for downloads and a 6TB disk for videos. That is without counting the external disks for backup. You can have a 500MB SSD, say, for Windows and a second disk for your data. If you feel you need more you can add a third disk later. Or you can backup some data you don't need immediate access and free space on your mechanical disk for new data, like I do.

My two computers, main and backup, each have three 2TB SSD drives and one 4TB HDD. They were purchased when storage was much cheaper, the NVMe SSD drives were $125/ea, now $300/ea! The the 4TB Ironwolf HDD drives were $110/ea, now $170/ea. Not as much of a jump for HDD, apparently HDD storage isn't as much in demand.

I'd be thinking differently today with the absurd prices!
