Solved A puzzling USB problem

The event viewer reports are symbolic.
(It often does not match the disk, partition, volume, etc)
(That's why all drives are tested)

It may be easier to identify the volume by using the symbolic link listed to the drive in the description of the Event ID.
For example, \Device\Harddisk3\DR3.

The destination disk information is how it appears to the operating system.
Storage virtualization and multipath I/O software may mask what is presented
to the operating system.
This information may not directly correspond to the physical mappings.

@zbook here are HDtune screenshots for the drive that got un-detected with a reboot or cold start. I really do not want to run such a test on my boot SSD since it is not giving me any problems and Windows has not detected any problem with it. This troublesome drive did not appear in Seatools as one Seatools could access. I have run a disk check through Windows on all my drives.

It is interesting to note that I have gotten NO event 154 occurrances with this drive now that I have the switch plugged into a USB 3.2 port nor has the drive shown any events if it's plugged directly into either a usb 2.0 port or a 3.2 port. To my way of thinking, it all boils down to Windows 11 just doesn't like having the switch plugged into a usb 2.0 port or some quirk with this new PC is causing it though I can find nothing in bios or the OS to lead me to what it might be.

Just a thought. It may not be a Windows problem but as you said, a hardware issue. Are the CPU and mobo in the Win11 machine significantly newer? I know in my Win11 machine, the 3.0 ports are controlled by the Ryzen 5600X CPU and the 2.0 ports by the mobo chipset. Maybe there is a conflict because of 2 different controllers and/or chipsets.

I see both systems are Intel. I have very little knowledge of Intel chipsets and CPU's because I've been strictly AMD since 2005. The only Intel CPU I ever had was a Pentium III, So, like I said, it's just a thought.

In addition to this, also go in Device Manager and verify that the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power checkbox is unchecked for both the USB Root Hub and the underlying USB Hub(s) in question.
