This tutorial will show you how to add or remove the Microsoft Print to PDF feature for all users in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Microsoft Print to PDF allows you to Print to PDF natively to create a PDF file of the contents of any web page or file without the need to use third-party software.

Microsoft Edge is the default app used to open .pdf files with.

If the Microsoft Print to PDF printer has been removed and the Microsoft Print to PDF feature is still enabled, then you will need to remove the Microsoft Print to PDF feature and add the Microsoft Print to PDF feature back to restore the Microsoft Print to PDF printer.

You must be signed in as an administrator to add and remove the Microsoft Print to PDF feature.

I would love to know how to change the settings of the PDF driver that Windows uses. Typically it creates a massive PDF files.

Hello, :alien:

Usually, you are able to select what (ex: page numbers) to "Print to PDF" in the print dialog. It's basically the same as what you select to print to a printer.

Previously I had used the Adobe acrobat print to PDF printer driver, before it became unaffordable. These days Adobe products are very pricey. The Adobe Acrobat Print to PDF driver used to create PDF files from word, powerpoint, etc in a few hundreds of kilobytes. Sometimes even less than 100 kilobytes, if the document had zero images. That is not the case for Microsoft printer driver for creating PDF. It creates PDF files which are in hundreds of kilobytes and sometimes even megabytes too.
I had heard a rumor that Microsoft Print to PDF driver incorporates the raw source as it is in the PDF file. Had no way to verify the internal structure of PDF though.

So Microsoft Print to PDF creates a pdf file which is close to double the size of the pdf created by Mozilla Firefox. 4.84 MB vs 2.23 MB. Does internally Firefox use Microsoft's PDF printer driver/functionality?

Maybe by default on Windows, but, I think you still have a choice.
I just ditched Firefox so I can't tell you for sure.

@Edwin, Just for my knowledge, what were there reasons that made you switch away from Mozilla Firefox?
