Apps Add or Remove Widgets on Widgets Board in Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to add (pin) or remove (unpin) widgets on the Widgets board for your account in Windows 11.

Widgets in Windows are interactive elements that display dynamic content and provide quick access to various apps and features. You can view your location's current weather conditions directly on the taskbar and hover over the icon to see concise, scannable information on topics like sports, stocks, local news, and breaking headlines. Widgets are designed to help you staying informed and organized by presenting personalized information at a glance.

Widgets are displayed on the Widgets board, which contains a collection of cards, each representing a widget with relevant information and actions related to an app. On the Widgets board you can discover, pin, unpin, arrange, resize, and customize widgets to reflect your interests.

Starting with Windows 11 build 26220.7523 (Dev and Beta), Microsoft is introducing a new Discover Windows widget on Windows 11. This widget helps you learn about Windows features with short, helpful tips that appear right when you need them. What it shows:

• Quick, actionable tips from the Windows Tips website—covering things like shortcuts, productivity tricks, and security reminders.
• Tips update automatically throughout the day to match common usage moments.

You can customize your Widgets board by adding and removing Widgets you want.

Option One

Add (pin) Widget to Widgets Board

1 Open Widgets (Win+W).

2 Click/tap on Widgets in the left pane, and click/tap on the Add Widgets (+) button at the top right. (see screenshot below)

3 Select a widget (ex: "Weather) you want to add in the left pane, click/tap on the Add widget button. (see screenshot below)

A grayed out Add widget button indicates the widget is already added.

You can click/tap on the Find more widgets link to install more widgets from the Microsoft Store to have available to add.

4 You can now resize, move, or customize the widget on the Widgets board.

Option Two

Remove (unpin) Widget from Widgets Board

1 Open Widgets (Win+W).

2 Click/tap on Widgets in the left pane. (see screenshot below)

3 Click/tap on the More options (3 dots) button on the upper right corner of the widget you want to remove, and click/tap on Remove. (see screenshot below)

It would be nice if there was a way to block all that news crap(and ads).
I tried to find a hosts file list on the net to block Microsofts servers for these, but in this case search results only show tutorials on how to use hosts files

I'm not sure about "Top Stories", but you can click on the "X" at the top right corner of each story to hide them.

Hopefully, more control will be available soon.

Problem is then they show other stuff, I want all news to be gone, and only have my time and weather(I also find the other widgets pretty useless, except TODO, but I try NOT to have a busy life, just work, and go home to my PC).

Yes, I had asked about being able to remove all news and just show weather (or whatever) in another thread, but looks like it isn't possible. I wouldn't mind using the widgets, but not if they force the news on us.

Can you figure out why the "Sports" widget is even called the "Sports" widget, when it only gives the choice of "Premiere League"?

When I add "Sports", and click the ellipses menu to get to "Customize widget", the only recommended option is Premiere League:




And from there, searching for a particular team either yields no results, or completely irrelevant results:



Adjusting settings in "Microsoft Start" has no effect whatsoever:

It's my first time to use Win 11 and I'm so confused, my widget only shows news. there's no search, weather nor option to add widgets. there's no profile picture too at the right top, although it said that I'm already logged in. Did I miss something? is it a limited features for windows 11 pro?

The only widgets I find useful are those in guinness cans which create the head to be as close to that in a draught pint.

I have two Copilot widgets enabled by default. One is simply called Copilot, and the other is called M365 Copilot. Both look pretty useless to me.

When I pin them, they're called Image Generation and Microsoft 365 Copilot.
