Hi all,

I would like to add the unallocated 48GB to the D drive. All pointers how to do that will be appreciated.

Thanks

    CPU
    Intel Core i9-13900H 2.6 GHz, 24MB 14 cores 20 threads

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 and Intel Iris Xe Graphics
    Monitor(s) Displays

Use EaseUS Partition Master (free).

Then "move" (slide), the 882MB Recovery partition to the left, so it's adjacent to C: drive.
This will leave the 48GB unallocated adjacent to the D: drive.
Then you just "resize" D: to include the 48GB unallocated.

It might sound complicated, but once you're IN the program... it's pretty easy.
After you tell EaseUS to do something, you need to click on the "Execute" button on the top left.

Image1.png

Like if I wanted to add this unallocated space to the E:\ partition, I would right click E: and choose: Resize/move
Then this windows would pop up... and you could just use the "handle" on the left side of the E: partition, and "drag" it to the left, until it includes all the unallocated space.

The "handles" on either side of the partition you right clicked, are HOW you resize or move partitions.
The handles look like black dots.
When you hover your cursor over a handle... it will get either an east-west cursor or a N-S-E-W cursor.
You want to use the east-west cursor.

Image1.png

But as I said above... you will first have to "move" the Recovery partition to the left, to get it out of the way.
To "move" a partition you use both handles. 1st slide the left handle to the left... up against the C: partition,
then slide the right handle to the left so the "moved" recovery partition is say 900MB.

THEN, the unallocated will be adjacent to the D: partition, so you will now be able to right click the D: partition,
and choose Resize. Then just slide the left handle on the D: partition to the left, till it uses up all the unallocated space.

When you move the Recovery partition so it's up against the C: partition, and tell it to execute... EaseUS may want to reboot the computer to complete the task... if so... let it reboot.

Notes:

1. Never try to make a partition smaller than the amount of data that is on the partition. EaseUS probably won't LET you.
2. When you want to add one partition to another, they have to be adjacent (touching).
3. For EaseUS to do "some" things to a partition that has data on it... it will want to reboot, to complete the task.
4. "Deleting" a partition will delete the data ON the partition, so be really sure before you "delete" a partition.
5. You may have to turn off Bitlocker on whichever partition you want to add the unallocated space... to.

Tip:

If you don't really need the extra 48GB on the D: partition, it would be much easier to just add that 48GB to the C: partition. Because they are already adjacent (touching).

To do that... just right click the C: partition and choose: "Resize". Then slide the right handle, to the right, to "add" the unallocated space to C:, then click execute.

Thanks John , does that mean it is not possible with the Win11 standard software ?

The EXTEND option is grayed out, there must be a reason for that, or . . .?

Just tested Partition Master, moving to the left was ok. But resizing can not be done in the free version.

Does being Bitlocker Encrypted of C: have an effect?

Perhaps the free version wants me to turn it off manually.

That is where it was in the first place. :-) I shrunk that partion because I need more space on D

D is where my files are, C is where the Operating System resides.

Ok... I wasn't sure if you needed it on D: or it was just OCD that couldn't handle the unallocated space.

If the unallocated and the D: partition were already touching... you could just use Disk Management to do this.

There MAY be a way to just delete the Recovery partition that's in the way, and recreate it afterwards.... (with command prompt), But I don't know how to do that. :)

You don't have to keep "EaseUS" after you do this stuff. When you're done you can just uninstall that.

Like I said above... this "sounds" way more complicated than it actually is.

1. Right click the 882MB Recovery partition that's (in the way), and choose: resize/move.
2. Grab the LEFT handle and slide it all the way to the left side of the unallocated space.
3. Grab the RIGHT handle and slide it to the left, until there is only 900MB between the two handles.
4. At the top left click on EXECUTE. If it wants to reboot, let it.

Now...

The unallocated space will be adjacent to the D: partition. So...

1. Right click the D: partition and choose: resize/move.
2. Grab the LEFT handle and slide it all the way to the left, to use up all the unallocated space.
3. At the top left... click EXECUTE.

That's it, you're done.

Last, but not least... when you're all done, go and buy an External Hard drive. :)

You can choose the country you're in, at the top right.
I sorted for 2TB and up.

The moving to the left went ok. But disk manager nor partiotion master lets me extend the D partition. The disk manager option is greyed out and partition manager wants money,

Will now make a drive of the unallocated space and see if I can MERGE them.

You probably have to turn off Bitlocker on the D: partition... first.
I don't think you can make ANY changes to a partition that has Bitlocker running on it.

It has it's... Bits... locked.

No... don't make the unallocated space a "drive". Just turn off Bitlocker on the D: partition.
After you "resize" D: to include the unallocated space... then you can turn Bitlocker back ON.

You should probably post a NEW screen shot of Disk Management, now that you've moved that Recovery partition.

EaseUS doesn't need money. It will do all this for FREE. But it can't deal with Bitlocker.

MiniTool Partition Wizard Free will do it. And, as its name suggests, its free.

If you want to get rid of the Windows Recovery Partition just run (in a command prompt with admin):
reagentc /disable

Delete the recovery partition. Then run:
reagentc /enable

And yes, you must turn off Bitlocker on any partition that you want to move/resize.

@NavyLCDR

I don't know the Diskpart commands... but after thinking about it... maybe the 2nd recovery partition is an HP one.

And... thanks. I wasn't sure about Bitlocker, as I'm on Home and don't have Bitlocker.
It sounded like you couldn't do things to partitions with it turned ON.
Thanks for the verify.

@GeneralLee01

You should also be able to resize the D: partition in Disk Management, now that we got that Recovery partition moved.
But EaseUS will do it also. So will Minitool Partition Wizard.

@NavyLCDR

I don't know the Diskpart commands... but after thinking about it... maybe the 2nd recovery partition is an HP one.
Neither one looks big enough for a factory recovery partition. But, with MiniTool Partition Wizard Free you can explore the Recovery Partitions and see what files and folders are in them.

1) What problems had you had that the EFI partition was modified to 260 MB?

2) Please run:

3) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

I just read through this entire thread and saw no mentions of any issues with the EFI System Partition. Why would 260MB ESP cause any problems?

Why do you believe the OP modified the EFI partition? It can have a varied size between 100MB and 500MB and when I review the posts in this thread I don't see where it was posted. Also, could you please explain how the information in your post will help the OP with the resizing of the unallocated 48.83GB to the "D" drive; I am just trying to learn how that would work.

The OP in this thread will learn how to use third party software to modify partitions.

If wanted he can resize any partition to gain experience.

This is the opportune time.

Thanks John , does that mean it is not possible with the Win11 standard software ?

The EXTEND option is grayed out, there must be a reason for that, or . . .?

Just tested Partition Master, moving to the left was ok. But resizing can not be done in the free version.
If I remember it correctly, using Windows partition utility, you can only extend a partition if the additional drive space is located to the right of the partition you want to extend. And "extend" option will only work if the additional space you want to 'merge with/extend to' is "unallocated"?

It's a small amount of size but if needed its available for C:
First of all, GeneralLee01 is trying to increase the size of D:, not C:. But, let's reduce the EFI System Partition to 100 MB and add 160 MB (0.16 GB) to:
C: - increase in size of 0.16% (less then 2 tenths of 1%)
D: - increase in size of 0.02% (2 hundredths of 1%)

Is it really worth messing with the EFI System Partition in order to gain such a minuscule increase in the other partitions? Again, I think you are looking for unsuspecting beta testers for your scripts and/or trying to create problems that just are not there. At a minimum increasing the complexity of a simple solution way beyond what it has to be.
