I'm actually going to make backups and then try upgrading from 21H1 to the W11 leak sometime this weekend.

But I'm also primed to use my IP account again to get DEV builds when they start pushing them.

I'm going to give it a go, as long as my VPN works to the server, the few bits of software I use work and it's relatively stable then I can't see any reason not to.

I missed out on the Windows 10 prerelease stage as I couldn't create a stable VPN to our servers, I'm using something different now so I'm pretty confident I can play along with the rest of you guys.

The thought of running a pre-release OS on my main rig makes me twitch just a little bit. I have some important data on there that could potentially be at risk.

Don't get me wrong, I make backups to the point of over excessiveness, but for some reason it still makes me just a tad bit nervous.

I suspect that I won't be able to resist too long and that I will eventually turn to the dark side, but I'm going to attempt resisting initially and try to be happy running 11 on VMs.

I'm using Win 11 on my secondary PC but is the one I use for most things - I may upgrade my developer machine if tests on this one goes well. I won't install a time-bombed OS on my main PC though.

being the long time βeta tester that I am, I have no such qualms.

Besides, dude - it's Micro$oft - when is their software ever not half-baked? :ROFLMAO:

I'm not even bothering with a separate disk and change in BIOS to keep it completely isolated - it's going on my main machine after I make my backups.

Why would you update to the leaked version when the official insider build (which will probably be newer since the leak is almost two months old) will be available in just days?

Because I can.

Full system backups make short work of it - and upgrading existing systems is exactly what the IP builds will be doing anyway, so getting a head start on even a leaked DEV build is good food for thought.

Plus ... I'm bored. I spent last weekend finishing the drip irrigation in my front yard rock garden, and next weekend is US Independence Day (Sunday, officially, but you know we'll be observing it starting later Friday evening) so this weekend is pretty free....

If it runs well, I can also pre-test things like working with my studetns in Google Classroom, meetings via Google Meet and Teams, and a few other things....

I clean installed 11 on my main desktop with TPM and Secure Boot enabled first thing this morning.
Been putzing with it all day getting things setup just the way I want it and all enrolled in the Dev Channel.
I'm hoping that when they do a release to dev that this install will just go ahead and update right to it.
My experience so far has been mostly positive, and all my current drivers and programs work just fine.

The only hiccup so far was when I tried to install .Net Framework 3.5 for one of my software installs.
It wouldn't install from Programs and Features or from the downloaded dotnetfx35 offline installer from MS.
The work around to get it to go in was to do an offline dism install in command prompt which points it to
either your Windows 11 install media, or the Windows 11 ISO mounted to a windows virtual drive as the source..

This may also work for people who were having trouble adding other features through add/remove programs.

Just about done and going to make an image with Macrium Reflect, then try some gaming on it after dinner.

I'm not gonna use it for my go-to, there'll be too many bugs, and, from what I've seen on the web, I'm not gonna like the new File Explorer! :(

I gave that a go -- but I cloned my operational system to a blank SSD before doing that. After I did the in-place Upgrade and rebooted, I was amazed to see that not only did everything carry over, but after several days of usage, I have been unable to find anything that did not still work as before. And this is with the leaked version! Just think of how much better the newer pre-released versions will be!

Once MS releases Windows 11 in the Insider ring the answers is YES I will try it on my main desktop! If I have any problems I'll use my Macrium image to roll back.
