Solved Asking for some insight about SD cards

... the SD card would nearly be completely internal to the laptop
I wish laptop manufacturers would make them completely sunken and spring loaded like phones! (y)

spring loaded is not a good idea actually. You can accidentally press on it and lose the card.

Maybe the Ejection Pin thing then, like on phones..., 'course then you'd have to have the Pin with you!!! 🤷‍♂️

I guess that's fine because we don't really remove the card too often. It is much like a hard drive in a sense.

For computers that don't have a microSD card reader you can buy one like this. You insert the microSD card into it and plug it into a USB port.

Here is a short and helpful video that deciphers those varied esoteric symbols on SD cards.

I ended up getting a 512GB high-speed SD card. While they are more fragile than thumb drives, they serve my needs (transferring files from my laptop to my desktop) just fine. It's fast and convenient.

I also went with NavyLCDR's suggestion and got a SABRENT 1TB Rocket Nano V2. It's pretty cool.

Many of these micro SD cards fit nicely into some Mobile phones as extra storage for music etc so probably more people want to use those than standard micro SD cards which seem pretty much obsolete now anyway.

I also have one inside a really old Gen 8 HP Micro proliant server I use as a NAS -- and I've replaced the Optical DVD drive with an SSD -- and use it as a NAS server - working still excellently after years of 24/7 operation (apart from upgrading HDD's and the Linux kernel). This server though won't boot from the SSD unless you use its own hideous hardware RAID -- so on standard boot in order for standard AHCI / SATA boot to work and keep the 4 bays of HDD's for data and not the OS I boot GRUB from the internal micro SD card - after GRUB starts the rest of the OS (/ - root /home and swap are all on the SSD,

I've never had a problem with the micro SD card on this server. As a file server even though donkeys years old --100% reliable, fast enough for its required processes and has around 50 TB storage on it !!!

Cheers
jimbo
