No, it doesn't, but click on it, then hover over the battery % in the popup and it does.

My version of Windows 11 does not have those Icons in the Control Center. As said earlier in this thread you may be running an external UI enhancer.

My version of Windows 11 is a completely standard upgrade from Windows 10, as it came from MS, with no 3rd-party add-ons at all. But I did initially have a problem with those icons being absent.

You should have those icons, if you don't then see if this thread helps restore them, particularly my post #9.

I deleted your two suggestions in the Registry and got the icons in the control center. Thanks! Now I have almost the opposite problem. lol

When I hover over the battery icon in the control center it says "Charging 100%" I have my MSI Dragon Center set to charge only when below 50%. The other icon I installed stopped showing charging when the battery hit 100% and no longer shows it charging. Very strange why the Control Center Icon is saying charging when the battery is at 100%.

Yes, so does mine. LOL.

I think that counts as a 'bug', my battery is quite evidently NOT being charged. The power LED on my laptop clearly shows that the battery is full charged and not currently being charged, it's blue rather than amber for 'charging'. Clicking on the battery icon takes me to System > Power & battery, which just says 100% with no indication that any charging is taking place.

Whenever the battery is being charged this should be indicated by a 'time until fully charged'.

Strange I went back and restored my registry and made sure those two reg entries were back and the icons are still showing even after a system reboot.

It's possible that you need to calibrate the new battery if the MSI Dragon Center has the option. Everything shows ok for me using Acer Care Centre which limits the charge to 80%.

I got the issue figured out but thanks for the input. Dragon Center does have calibration and I'll do that every 3 months as recommended by them. I also see yours is still showing charging 80% even though it isn't charging as you have it set to stop at 80%. So as said earlier it must be a bug.

It's showing both plugged-in and charging. The charging bit is that it is maintaining the 80% charge and not discharging.

Windows 11 still says 'charging' after the battery is fully charged. That is departure from the behaviour of Windows 10, which clearly stated that the battery was fully charged when no further charging was taking place.

Whether this change from the accepted norm is deliberate design choice on the part of MS, an oversight, or just a bug, is a matter of conjecture. It's certainly very confusing....

This will turn to (charging) when it hits 50% and the color will change.

With Reg edit fix

I guess the "charging" is how you want to look at it. Even at 100% it says "Charging" so you can look at it as "maintaining a charge" or think it should say "Fully Charged (or similar)" to indicate that it is fully charged. I think the latter is more informative.

My Dragon Center is set to only charge when it gets to 50% and shut off at 80%. The battery app in this case is showing the correct information.

That's odd as Windows 11 shows nothing about charging in main settings page only on the notification icon. I'm assuming that it won't show as fully charged neither.

There seem to have been some poor design choices here. Window knows full well whether the battery is being charged, or whether the laptop is running off the mains power and the battery is not playing any part. In Windows 10 that was indicated clearly. For Windows 11 the absence of any comment in the main page is apparently meant to be taken as meaning 'fully charged', while if the battery is actively charging a 'Time until fully charged' will be shown. I gave examples of both in my post #27.

The hover over text for the battery icon on the taskbar and on the action center popup are just plain wrong and contradictory. Simutaneoulsly one will say 'fully charged' while the other says 'charging'. This is just bad programming.

I'm wondering if that is why the control center in my default installation did not have the battery icon. They may known there was an issue so they either removed it or left it out. I had to do the registry hack to make it show up. either way the task bar Icon should be more specific on what is actually happening with the battery or at least the battery page in system settings.

I don't think so, it's not left out in a clean install. Also, my Edit icon was missing, there's no logical reason for MS to deliberately leave that one out. I think it was more likely to be something I had unpinned myself back in W10 before the upgrade, and after upgrading there was no longer any way to pin it back.

A similar situation where the taskbar shows the batteries not charging and the quick menu shows charging. It's been a bit of a mystery, good to know I'm not the only one that has this erroneous indication.

Has your PC upgraded to 22H2 yet? The laptop my earlier screenshots came from was running 21H2, but has now had the 22H2 Feature Update.

There have been changes to the way the battery icon behaves in 22H2. In particular, when running on battery a 'remain time' estimate is now displayed in the hover-over text.

The hover-over text while charging has changed too (and no longer apparently contradictory). It now says 'plugged in/fully charged' rather than 'charging/fully charged'. Bothre the Hover-over text and the Action Centre now switch to saying 'fully charged' at the same time.
