Bluetooth Device Rename

My laptop using win 11 does the same thing it goes to the new bluetooth settings window where you cant right click anything. I cant access the devices like all the answers are telling me to???? Seems such an easy thing to do but is made so damn difficult meh....

The only way I've gotten this to work is to rename the device itself on another device, and then whatever name I've chosen sticks in Windows.

Mind you, though, this is for devices (*usually paired to my Android Phone) that allow themselves to be renamed in the first place. So, for example, with my Google Pixel Buds Pro, in my phone, I renamed the Buds to Allegro (their internal codename) and now Windows shows them as allegro as well.

I do not know if this works with using an iDevice, but if there is a mobile app for your device, try connecting to it via mobile and see if you can change the name itself on the device there.

This may, or may not, work, YMMV.



Cheetah is my Pixel 7 Pro. Allegro are the Buds Pro.

BTW that didn't work, I have yet to find a solution, and I am moving from stymied past disappointed to angry about how poorly W11 works with BT devices.

Odd. I rename my devices using device code names if I can find them. I am currently using the Google Pixel Buds Pro 2, but could not find a code name for them. My previous buds, the Pixel Buds Pro (first gen) were code named Allegro, so I (jokingly) named the new ones Fortissimo on my Android (Pixel 9 Pro) phone, and Windows reflects it:

Incidentally, how can I set it to "Connected audio" only and not "Connected mic, audio"? I feel like there used to be an easy-to-find tick box..

Connected audio means audio out only. Connect mic, audio means both - so change your mic to another mic and it will show only audio.

Also, in Android, is that the device's name that you set?

I know what it means... Was trying to figure out the easy way (there used to be an easy way) to set it for audio only.

I was making sure that wasn't a generic name for the device, that you had purposefully set it (I was pretty sure you had, but still had to make sure - can't assume).

ISTR something similar, but haven't seen it in a while, so this is the only way I know now.

Sometimes headsets will give you two options for pairing when pairing them, and then you can select one or the other, but once it is paired, you have to forget the device and re-pair to get the other option. But some devices only give you one option when pairing, so to change it you have to forcibly change the mic input device.
