Can you replicate this bug on your Windows 11 PC? (Single Click BREAKS Right Click)

Hi,
Context menus disappearing was something all four systems had after 11 install but seen on desktop

It was gone after finally getting rid of show more off context menus using Brink's reg file and restart.

I'm still on ...282 on three builds and first release on the fourth it has not been updated yet since new build seems buggy from reports so I have not bothered updating it atm since ...282 would not be where updates stop.
Here I never used the Registry trick to show more on the context menu but have left things as is. On both desktops the right-click menu behaves normally. On both machines I still see the right-click menu disappear often in File Explorer however.

Hi,
I started using check boxes to select items but still use single to click to open them
Maybe try check boxes.

Thanks for the tip. I don't really use the right-click menu that often in File Explorer so this isn't much of a problem for me but I did find it interesting to look into after reading The Pool Man's OP.

This behavior shouldn't be occurring but it does on our machines for whatever reason and I do hope a later build corrects it at some point even if Microsoft never mentions it in fixes as it perhaps is simply something in the synergy of our machines, Gremlins running about and laughing at us all the while.

Now that you mention it I think I did see you mention getting booted before, not very nice of them and they should give you a new machine of your choosing for Christmas to make amends!!!

right-click is very flaky opening and then crashing straight away. sometimes I wonder if there's anyone working at Microsoft. right-click is very basic and if you struggle to get that right then what hope for anyone to take the 11 operating systems seriously
it takes me back to when vista was released and had to point out to the executive team at our annual MVP confernce that the specification was floored on the release. it was set to low that and how people were starting to use computers with apple etc. i was clearly demonstrating for all to see that on the reboot it won't reboot as the ram was shot at 2GB even 3GB was bad coupled with a 1600 processor. i had a 6GB 2.7 processor so never had any problems from the off.
as the executive team at the time said. (where's he been all our lives ):ROFLMAO: well I'm retired now but still get annoyed that the basics come out not working as they should

I see the same vanishing-menu behavior. It happens when I move to a File Explorer item and immediately right-click. If I wait a fraction of a second for the item to fully highlight before I right-click, the context menu stays in place. Alternatively, I can right-click immediately provided that I also immediately move the mouse pointer onto the menu; then, too, the menu stays in place. Definitely a UI bug, but not hard to work around.

Damn! I knew I had those gremlins! Now all I have to do is remember where I put that gremlin eradicator spray software.

(Joking aside, I think I've had fewer gremlins in 11 than I had in 10. Maybe that's because of all the things they took out of 11 that could conceivably create gremlins.)

There may be something to what you say and perhaps some functionality such as in the Taskbar options will return if Microsoft can work out any Gremlins those features may have created in the new interface.

MS is weird!
They attempt to wean us off Windows 10, stealthily, with much fanfare and empty promises...,
... sorry but, Windows 11 just ain't solid food!

1 out of 5 isn't bad might be 2 out of 6 tomorrow when I redo my x299 upgrade.

@ThrashZone Yeah, I started using the check boxes as well. The only downside I've found with using single click+checkboxes is sometimes if I fatfinger my mouse and get a little bit off on checking a box, I end up opening the file or folder I'm trying to select rather than highlighting it.

Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5007262) says:
  • Updates an issue that prevents the display of File Explorer and desktop shortcut menus. This issue often occurs when you choose to use a single click to open an item.
I've checked both systems after installing this Update and found the behavior discussed in this thread to be fixed on both of my machines. While this behavior did not "prevent" the display of the File Explorer shortcut menu, perhaps it was a part of the problem Microsoft says they addressed.

Yup! It's fixed. PCs are feeling a lot less clunky.

Do hope some-one has a working solution !?desktop-settings.jpgpointing at screensaver-settings-almost invisible !.jpg
