Cannot Mount ISO File

I bought an HP Omen HP 16wd0073dx a few weeks ago. I am trying to mount an ISO file for a course I'm taking. I downloaded the file twice in case the first was corrupted. I open File Explorer > right click on the file > select Mount, and I get a spinning wheel and Windows Explorer becomes inactive. I have to ctrl+alt+delete into task manager and end the task.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Which .iso? Where from?

EDIT

Just tried Windows 11 Installation Media.iso from 'Create Windows 11 Installation Media' MCT

and Windows 11 Installation Media - Full.iso from 'Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO)' MCT

Both mounted successfully as normal.

Do you have a bundled 3rd-party Anti-Virus product? It might be blocking it. Another way to check if this ISO isn't corrupt, is to open the file with 7-Zip and browse the contents. That won't answer the question of why it's not mounting, but can confirm if the ISO's valid.

The ISO is for a computer course and contains a few VMs and course materials.

I had McAfee when I purchased and deleted it immediately. I could open the ISO and see the files in 7-Zip.

So, I tried to mount the ISO again and went to my browser to do some more research when a minute or so later I switched back over to Explorer and saw that it loaded.

So, I guess it's not that it wasn't working, it was just taking way too long to work. Any ideas on what that may be and how to fix it?

EDIT: Sorry you replied whilst I was typing.

You might also want to check that the mount process is still associated with windows by default. You never know, worth a shot if nothing else works.

Scroll down to the table and click on ISO and use the reg file.

How BIG is the ISO?
If it's really large... it will take a while.

I believe it has to "read" the ISO before it can mount it.

The Win 11 ISO is about 6GB and it mounts fast.

ISO's are filesystems contained inside a volume. It takes virtually no time to mount them. More likely, if your instructor included a few VM's, those are large single files which your current real-time scanner (Defender?) might take a long time to scan through.
