Solved Canon printer question


Upon reflection regarding electronic devices. About 3 weeks ago, we got a new Roku upgrade and installed that to the tv. May have been in the same time frame come to think of it. That may have contributed to the weak signal message? I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer hoping that would help but it was not recognized so install failed. That's why it is now in the living room. And working. Thanks for your insights.

I don't know how or why but the new Roku is a possibility.

I’d highly doubt it but I’ve been wrong before.

It doesn’t have to be the laptops wireless, it could as easily be the printers wireless. It’s not at all a new printer.
Regardless, the cost of an adapter or new card for either as apposed to the USB cable that you probably have laying around, isn’t worth considering.

Up date to my update regarding Canon printer. It would appear that I cannot print outside the Canon print menu. i.e. -- if I create an image in Photoshop and instruct PS to print, I get a failed msg.

I think it's that install on the top line that the app goes to. If I print within the Canon menu, no problem - probably cuz it's going to that second line. Oui??
So if I un-install top printer, all should work...oui? Also do not know about that 3rd line stuff. Can I uninstall that. Don't see a need. Thank you so much smart win11 people.

You should be able to choose printer two before you hit print. I would leave the print to pdf alone.

Did you try installing your printer twice. For example: once using wireless and another using USB? If you did that would explain the two printers showing. I'm going to reread this thread starting at the beginning and see if I see something that may be causing your problem.

I see you posted that you did uninstall and reinstall the printer. Can you explain exactly how you did it? Also, In Control Panel click on Add a printer and see if it's listed. If it is, I would make a backup system image and then delete both printers. Then I would restart the computer and use the add printer option in Control Panel. If it fails you can restore your system image or try the Cannon software to reinstall it.

That's entirely possible -- it's been so frustrating--since it worked fine in the old location for 2 years and then to NOT. So I tried a bunch of Canon "solutions" and that may have screwed things up. It's been a while and I can't remember all the stuff I tried. When I moved it to LR and it worked I was happy but then this "printer not responding message showed up.Anyway, why can't I just uninstall the one that says "error" -- and see if that works first. The fact that it says "error" is a puzzle as well. Thanks again.

I looked at the settings for each printer. The one that reads "error" is on port LPT1 I think it's called. The one that seems to work has the following port assigned--

What a can of worms. Once again no deal. Earlier in the week, I moved the printer to the LR to be closer to the router. Now, when I tried to do a simple print (text) it came up with "connection assistant" since the print job failed. That app tells me that my signal is weak, (across the room from the router) and that a microwave oven may interfere. That is 20 feet away and behind a wall. It also says a wireless mouse may interfere (I am not using it wirelessly). Wireless keyboard as well - I am on a laptop. I will shut the printer down and try again. Crazy sensitivity of this technology!!

Lastly, Canon connection assistant decided all set -- ok all done. "Print test sheet. All connected." After all I wrote in my previous msg, it now says all connected and ok. I am giving up for today. do not want to print or try to print anything until my patience has been restored - tomorrow. Thanks to all who took this trip with me.

That is what I mean. Before you do anything be sure what printer the cannon printer is using. Do a test print by selecting what printer to use.

I hope I'm wrong but it's possible that the either the printer or the Wi-Fi adapter in the printer is slowly dying. If the printer has a network connection you may be able to use a network cable to connect it to the Wi-Fi router. If not, you can connect it to the laptop using a USB cable. The last option is to invest in a new printer. I say last because I don't want you to spend money on a new printer unless you want to.

I think working outside in the sun is getting to me. I totally forgot another Wi-Fi option. It's the one I use. I always connect my printers to my Wi-Fi router instead of my computer. If it's possible and you're connecting your laptop directly to the printer, this may be the way to go. What I like about doing this is that all devices connected to my local Wi-Fi can connect to and use the printer(s). I have two printer. A Brother Laser and a HP OfficeJet printer. I only use it when I need to do color printing so I haven't installed it in Win 24H2 yet.

I hope it's not dying. Only 2 years old and not worked to death by any means. Can't connect to router. Too far away. Must do it to laptop. I can buy a 6' usb cable and connect it that way. When I'm not using it I can just unplug it and it will be ok, right. Nothing lost. I think this has been answered but my mind is drowning in all of this printer miasma..watch out for that sun!!:cool:

Being only two years old I hope it's not dying. I looked up the online manual and I think it was written on a Friday and they were to busy to write the manual with more detailed instruction. From what I read I think you can enter the Wi-Fi setup on the printer. If I'm correct you would only need to enter the same SSID (Name of your Wi-Fi) and password that you use to connect your laptop to the Wi-Fi router. This should connect the printer to the Wi-Fi router instead of your laptop.
