Solved Canon printer question

Here is a pic of how my Brother printer and other devices show up when I look at the Network in File Explorer. The Brother shows more than once because it's an All-N-One printer.

Hmmm. When it was still in the other room and I tried to fix the connection, I got to a point where that ssid was required to complete install. So, I think it is connected to router and that is why I keep getting the msg about the weak signal. Make sense?? Thanks.

If the printer shows under Network in file explorer, right click on it and see if it shows a IP address. My Brother printers show a IP address of 10. 0.0.xx. That is a IP address that is definitely coming from my router's IP address and not the printer.

Do you have any near neigbours ? If there WiFi system is broadcasting on the same channel as yours? can lower the output power of your router therefore giving you low WiFi signal messages.

To test, get the WiFi Analyser app for Android (free), and scan for free channels using you mobile. WiFi Analyzer (open-source) – Apps on Google Play
Don't know if it's available for IPhones  (there are but IPhone apps cost $$$)

Yes - do have near neighbors but this printer worked for two years - including the near neighbors. Thanks. Also, do not have mobile phone.

Here is what I see when I right click on the printer in Network..I do see an ip addresss. So it is connecting thru the router, right? I haven't tried printing anything today - last evening it said all was connected so maybe diagnose by Canon did something. I'll let you know. Thanks again for your time.

So it is connecting thru the router, right?
That looks like a IP address for the router. Is the router further away from the printer than the printer is away from the laptop?

Wellll....just tried to print thru Photoshop. Here's what came up:
dd.webp
Soooo, I went to the properties dialog box as suggested - no such dialog box. "Cannot communicate with the printer" - that's a new one.
Soooo part 2 -- went to the Canon menu, said "print" the image that gave me the above message. -- and it did. So I guess I just can't print from within P.S. -- the printer setup is apparently fine. Not happy that I can't print from PS and I fear any other apps that I may use. I will have to work on that. Thanks for all your help!!

Have you tried installing the printer without using the Cannon software? If you haven't I'm going to suggest one more thing before you throw in the towel. If you don't have one, make a system image with the printer and the Cannon software still installed. Use a program such as the free version of Revo Uninstaller to uninstall all of the cannon software. Then delete the printer and restart the computer. If the printer is really connected to the router you should be able use Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add Printer to install the printer without the Cannon software. If the printer can't be found you may have to use the menu screen on the printer to connect it to the Wi-Fi router. You will need to know the SSID of the router and the password to log in the printer.

Oh - just read your finished post. I do turn it off for days at a time and only turn it on as needed. So that's not good??? I can leave it on as recommended but it seems like a waste of electricity...no? Thanks again.
I have two wireless printers. Both Stay turned off until I need them. When I tell it to print they turn themselves on and print what I have ordered. I have never kept my printers on at all. One is a black and white laser printer and the other is an inkjet. There have been months when I never used either of them to print and when I ordered something printed it's always performed. Just an FYI.

Only ever worked with a printer once that could do white printing, '94 and it was an Alps but not a laser, used ink sticks. Shop I worked in was a dealer.

I have a LaserJet and an Inkjet connected to my LAN via Ethernet cable to the Router, always on but sleep mode active.

You have me curious. If your printers are turned off and not in sleep mode, how do they turn themselves on?
I don't have a clue! :-) Both of them are Brother.

Inkjet = MFC-J5855DW Laser = MFC-L2710DW

Ha! Black ink on white paper.

I have a MFC-L2730DW and if I press and hold the power button the printer turns off and will not go back online until I press the power button. When my printer finishes a print job it will go into sleep mode after a preset time. If it stays idle it will eventually go into deep sleep mode. Looking at the user manual for your printer, I see your printer has the same sleep features as my printer. Just to make sure I just turned off my printer and sent a print job to it and the printer did not turn back on. When you say that you turn off your printers, do you do it by holding the power button?

My HP LaserJet and OfficeJet connected by Ethernet to Router work the same way.
