Can't delete Microsoft Family account

Ok so I have a Microsoft family account, with myself, partner and stepson. Originally set up for parental controls for stepson - which is now no longer necessary and we keep getting emails about various things - so I decided to delete it and can't work out how. It tells you you can remove family members - so I decided to remove all of us thinking that might close the account. Deleted Partner, went to delete child and it wouldn't let me - it said this can only be done by the family organiser. I am the family organiser! And I'm signed in. It also said the person who originally gave child permission. So I thought maybe that might have been my partner so re-added him again and he signed in and he can't delete the child from the account either.

So I'm stuck now. Can I just delete the whole microsoft family thing altogether somehow?

Ok I managed to find something somewhere to remove consent for child account (this then warns me that account won't be able to access anything! But saw an article that said remove consent then you can delete them from the family account. So that worked. I've removed all of us from Microsoft family - but my name is still showing - presumably because I'm logged in.

So how do I now completely get rid of Microsoft Family please?

The Microsoft Family account is very hard to get rid of. My nephew contacted me to help him remove it. He originally created it for his daughter, but it was annoying him.

I spent a lot of time trying to help him, and despite following all the Microsoft Support articles, it was never completely removed. He even contacted Microsoft support directly without any success. I think he eventually created another account for his daughter.

I'll be interested to see the complete correct solution.

Thanks yes - I removed all family members, including myself - but I'm still there!

Thanks - that second one says once all family members are removed the family account is closed. Well it isn't really - it's still there. Maybe it's not possible to close/delete it completely once you've started it.

i have also searched MS community and found this.

it has many threads about deleting a family account.
not sure if it will be helpful as i dont have or use a family account.
