Hi all -

Have a great machine that does not have hardware TPM and has a Core i7-3770 CPU. It's an HP HPE-1360T tower.

Enabled Secure Boot in the BIOS.

Tried the MoSetup thingy with no result for the CPU.

Cannot find "appraiserres.dll" file on this system.

Want to force a seamless upgrade to W11, not a clean install.
W10 Update still complains.

Any ideas that work would be appreciated, Lol.

First you need to convert your system disk to GPT if that isn't the case now. The upgrade itself is easy if you use a prepared flash drive, as I have just done. You should find everything you need here but do ensure your current system is imaged and you know how to restore it if necessary -

When you start an in-place upgrade the setup files are copied from the ISO to the C: drive and setup runs from there. Appraserres.dll will now be in C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources. Do the upgrade while disconnected from the internet. Choose 'not right now' for how it checks for updates. Replace appraiserres.dll at this point before continuing with the upgrade.

When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

Not necessary, I've upgraded MBR/legacy bios systems without any problems.

You will never get the upgrade to Win11 offered through Windows Update on an unsupported device. You can, with the appraiserres workaround, upgrade an unsupported device to 11 using an ISO to do an in-place upgrade.

Where's the best place to D/L that ISO and please clarify the .dll workaround.
Should I create a Zero byte file?

Microsoft's ISO page is incredibly slow! Something wrong there.

I use the ISO made with the MCT. The appraiserres.dll does not exist on your system until you start the in-place upgrade.

You need to make a zero sized file, create a new text document on your Desktop and rename it as appraiserres.dll. Disconnect from the internet, mount the ISO then run Setup.exe.

When you get to the 'Choose how Setup downloads updates' screen, delete C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\appraiserres.dll and replace it with the one you made. Then select 'not right now' for the update checks and continue with the upgrade. It will skip all the hardware checks and allow you to upgrade to 11.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

I just upgraded to win11 from win10, thank you Bree for the post on what to do. What I did was download a collection of files using the MCT designed to burn to an ISO. But did not burn any iso. I simply copied the folder of the files onto a flash drive and plugged it into the win10 PC. Ran setup, and followed the apprairseres.dll instructions. No mounting of an iso or anything special, just ran it from file manager. The win11 install took about 40 minutes to finish. I was having some severe issues with 10, and thought 11 would fix that, but it did not. What I then did was create a new admin account using net commands, and logged into the new account on a reboot, and everything worked again. my old 'sdown' user account is severely hosed and affected the entire operating of the PC very badly. I am just using the new account now on the PC.

I'm glad the tip helped you install 11 smoothly. Yes, sometimes the only fix for a corrupted account is to ditch it and create a new one.
