Solved Can't find drivers for Microsoft Surface Pro


The easiest way to find which Surface model you have is to use the Surface app. It shows the model name of your Surface device and each Surface accessory.

You wouldn’t need to install them via CCleaner but it would at least tell you what drivers are missing, not sure.

I wrote a script to scrape the all the driver links from the Surface HW support page. Not sure why MS doesn't just do this themselves.
The drivers are sorted in descending order, based on the Windows release.

I suspect it's one of the two drivers posted in #16

I only need it for 23H2. No point in going backwards. It's downloaded as a 1.3GB bundle so it comes with them all, not just the ethernet or Wi-Fi drivers I need.

Again, I'll check this when I get home and will also save them for future reference. I'm surprised I'm the first one here who has this driver problem with this particular brand of machine. :unsure:

If you cannot read the serial number on the device, install Aida64 and go to Computer- > DMI -> System to find the part number and serial number. Use these on Microsoft site to download the appropriate driver pack for your model, not all drivers are suitable for all models. If installing the official Microsoft drivers doesn't work and still there is a driver missing (very unlikely), then use Snappy Driver Installer or CCleaner Driver Updater to install ONLY the missing driver. In most devices and especially tablets updating the motherboard components (aka chipset) drivers from a driver utility is you are asking for trouble. NEVER do that. Strictly only the missing drivers.

There seems to be zero variation for a Studio laptop. I am assuming it is one size fits all. It wouldn’t make sens for Microsoft to make it impossible to find other versions.

Have you tried just going to device manager > properties of that device > and getting the hardware id? I didn’t see that typed anywhere… that’d be the easiest way to find that one specific driver

Or download Aida64 and go to Devices->Windows Devices (or physical devices). Even without drivers installed it will tell you the model or at least the hardware IDs so you can Google them and find drivers.

Like I said before, Surface PC's come in distinct product families. If you have a "2", "3" or whatever of a Surface model; it will be named that in all the Surface App & packaging.

We're spending too much time deliberating a straightforward question.

Wow, what a pain. A real pain! Dumbing down instructions only makes it more harder. I hope this helps others because I refuse to believe I'm the only one out there that's experienced this before.

A good thanks to you all, especially @garlin who pointed out to me the right drivers based on my incomplete information.

PS: Maybe create a tutorial on it, perhaps? For Microsoft-branded machines? Yeah? 🤔

While individuals will buy a Surface, the product line is geared towards large companies and their IT staff. That's why MS doesn't offer a clean support site, where you find your PC model and get the usual pick of software tools, drivers, and user manuals. Other than Xbox, MS is terrible at the direct-to-consumer model. You're right, it's difficult for a normal person.

What types of re-install/recovery support does MS provide?

- Downloadable Recovery images, for each Surface model It's a custom ISO, with the drivers and Surface app included. The Windows version may be slightly out of date, but you'll run Windows Update anyway.

- Driver packs as I've mentioned. These are intended for your IT person to customize their install ISO.

- A set of tools for your IT person to build an install ISO, by downloading various bits of driver software.

As you can tell, the recurring theme is MS wants you to reinstall from an ISO prepared by them, or one of their tools.
