Hello! I'm in a dilemma whether to replace my RTX 3080 Ti with a Quadro P6000. Tell me your opinion and help. I think my current graphics are not really compatible with the rest of the hardware. Correct me if I'm wrong. Many thanks in advance!

I don't know what you mean by "compatible".

The RTX 3080 ti is more powerful than the Quadro 6000.

However, the Quadro has 24GB of VRAM, while the 3080 ti has 12. If you're a CAD user, the Quadro may support Open GL instructions that are absent from the 3080 ti.

So, your choice is use based.

Are you really running only an HD (1920 X 1080) monitor? My preference would be to upgrade that, rather than the GPU.

Edit, later: I see that you referred to a Quadro P6000, rather than a 6000. The P6000 is still an oldish card, in the Maxwell family (like the GTX 980). But nVidia still has driver support for it, unlike the 6000.

Changes little.

Start with understanding the Quadro P6000 is NOT a gaming card, but a content creation card for graphics artists and photographers. While exceptional in that area, if you're a gamer, the RTX 3080 is the better card. The cards also use different drivers.

Yes, you can use it for gaming, but you'd get better gaming performance from the RTX 3080.

Yeah those are two fruits from different trees! If you're cad heavy or use it as workstation, then absolutely the quadro no doubt. If its a gaming pc then of course the 3080ti all day long, If you're looking for a bit of both? Probably better with a 4090 or a 5090. Doubt itll be as good as the quadro in workstation mode but will certainly balance the books.
Based on you're specs though thats setup to be a workstation across the board, The slow ram is not gonna help in any gaming scenario at all, Yeah workstation for me, Id build something else for gaming based on the way its built

Performance wise - even GTX 1080 Ti is slightly better than Quadro P6000. Both released in 2016, so i don't get the comparison with a RTX 3080 Ti (2 generations above - released in 2021).

RTX 3080 TI will still do a far better job - even with 12 GB VRAM. Quadro is basicly a GTX 1080 (not even TI) - with 24 GB VRAM.

I wasnt entirely sure, my knowledge on quadros are limited like, I'd personally go 3080ti all day. I think it may be another Gpu that he already has or has the choice of owning, thats my guess anyway

I don't do CAD, or any other professional functions that might benefit from workstation card. I can't speak from personal experience whether a P6000 would serve better for "uco73". If "uco73" is a gamer, his system is unusual for that purpose.

Yay i love picky haha! but the quadro is a pascal gen Yeah doubt its a gaming system by any means of imagination, that ram speed hurts my brain when viewed in a gaming capacity. the 3080ti is probably better overall, just do a youtube of it im sure something will come up

EDIT: Just looked it up, The 3080ti smashes it across the board in benchmarks, not just gaming ones of course, rendering etc. Whether the quadro has script sets or things in it that are used for workstation related things that a gaming card wouldnt have, i couldn't possibly say as it isn't my forte

Oops. There's nothing like having a correction corrected. Pascal it is. (At both TechPowerUp and Wikipedia.) I must apologize.

I wonder what "uco73's" usage is? The Dell is an oldish workstation (The Xeon W 2125 was released in 2017.) Intended for pro applications, but its primary use hasn't been shared with us.

256GB of registered DDR4? Just the thing for gaming. ;-)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nvidia_graphics_processing_units

Nothing wrong with being picky - when you're actually right about something, but when you're picky - and correct someone.... while in the wrong.

Let me give you a hint, what do you think the P from P6000 stands for?! :winkt:

I don't do CAD, or any other professional functions that might benefit from workstation card.

Video Games are a lot like professional and intensive 3D rendering apps - when it comes to actually rendering - the created content (basically the game - is the final/finished product - being rendered). Main difference (rendering wise) - all video games are optimized (or at least they should be) - by being capped at what can be rendered (even using cheap tricks - for the content rendered at long distance), or else - they would crash with most consumer GPUs (except the high end versions). Tho, usually - only while developing and rendering Cinematic content - the VRAM limitations of consumer cards starts to show (we're talking major studios and high budget movies). Blender for example - is used by a lot of students (learning the basics and developing their skills) - with mainstream GPUs, and for... their skill level (and what they render for most part) - most rarely get close to 8 GB VRAM. But advanced Blender users - who use it for cinematic content - can notice some limitations even at 24 GB VRAM - while rendering very complex and realistic scenes. On the other hand - if Unreal Engine 5.x is their poison of choice - than 8GB GPUs should be minimum. I'm aware of a case where the one in question had a RTX 3060 12 GB VRAM, it broke - and he bought a RTX 3070 but with 8 GB RAM - and his projects made/rendered previouslly with RTX 3060 - kept crashing under RTX 3070 - didn't realize that, sent it to waranty - but no issue could be found with the card - turn-up it was VRAM (needed more than 8GB for his previous work). Maybe if he used the RTX 3070 from start - wouldn't have that issue.

Nothing wrong with being picky - when you're actually right about something, but when you're picky - and correct someone.... while in the wrong.

Let me give you a hint, what do you think the P from P6000 stands for?! :winkt:
Never paid much attention to the workstation cards.

Apparently nVidia didn't see fit to use a letter prefix to their Ada series RTX workstation cards.

Maybe they planned to save it for the next gen (Ampere). Which they did.

Not W-2125. I have W-2195. Sorry for correcting.
I should apologize for my error. Apparently, my reading comprehension is at all-time low today.

At least the W 2125 exists, and had roughly the same release time as the W 2195.

Do you need 24GB of VRAM?

You paid enough attention to wrongfully correct me, but didn't even bother to read the link you yourself used as proof for that statement. Sure, we're all humans - we all make mistake... but to correct something right - with a mistake - and be cocky about it (while sure i was the one in the wrong and feeling some false sense of pride from correcting me).

And yes, A was already taken with previous generation (A6000) so they couldn't use it twice (and leave room for confusion).

Just the thing for gaming. ;-)
Haha its all good it doesnt happen often! Yeah plenty of ram but its super slow, anything above 32gb for gaming at this point is pointless lol. 32gb at a fast speed will eat the 256gb alive in performance in a gaming scenario

A bit offended, are we?

I only apologize once.

Pride didn't figure into it. I'm not here for that.

I can't explain how I made such an error. It's embarrassing.

Although there are many denials on the internet, showing that workstations can play games, people are still in disbelief that Xeon processors, registered ECC memory and quadro graphics are not designed for gaming. My configuration can run any game on ultra settings without any problems. My monitor is 1080p, but I believe everything would work fine on 2k and 4k monitors. I am an old gamer and 1080p is quite enough for me.

Yeah they aint designed for it but it doesn't mean they can't have a go! the 3080ti should be fine for most things, But theres 5090s out there that cant max everything at 4k 60 natively so where does the buck stop really
