"Compress to Zip file" no longer working. How do I fix it?

I do have one last suggestion if you haven’t tried it already;

- Uninstall 7-zip:
Use Revo uninstaller Free so you can remove all traces of 7-zip in the registry and File Explorer, tell it to "scan for leftovers"
- Run the default reg file in brinks tutorial, reboot and check again.

Uninstalled 7-zip with Revo Uninstaller, scanned with Advanced, and removed all traces of 7-zip. Rebooted, ran Brink's .zip reg file, tested. No change. So, apparently there is some other interaction, or this is a bug that only affects some hardware, or there is some setting somewhere that might be corrected by a repair install, or ...

I'm just going to live without it and (maybe) occasionally do a search to see if someone has solved this admittedly minor issue.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks. I have alternative ways to create Zip files, including the one you mention and using 7-Zip. The built-in method, when it works, is the quickest and simplest, so I was trying to get it to work as designed, but it's becoming a time sink and is probably not worth the time it would take to fix it.

That’s disappointing. I had high hopes.

I proffer WinRAR for RAR and ZIP. This is all achievable in WinRAR. I use 7-Zip as well though, for other archives and occasionally multiple files. Regardless, whatever I use, it still involves a right click.

In the past, I've used WinRAR and WinZIP, but 7-Zip is free and seems to do anything I need to do with archives. In any case, it's nice to have alternatives.

I've encountered this issue before. Have you used the contextmenu manager to hide “Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder”? That might be the cause. I found that once I switched “Send to > Compressed (zipped) Folder” from hidden to visible, the “Compress to zip” option started working properly. It seems these two options actually refer to the same item.

I also use 7zip and don't have a Compress to zip on my right click menus.
I wonder if 7zip took control.
No, you've just turned off the 'Show more options' context menu.

I have have 7-Zip too, 'Compress to...' is only on the 'Show more options' menu.
In this old style menu you can still 'Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder' but you won't have the new 7z, TAR, and Additional options.

What I said was, "When I select some files, right-click, and select "Compress to Zip file," instead of getting a ZIP file, I'm prompted for a program to open the files. ... How can I restore this function?"
When asked for a program try choosing explorer.exe - that is after all what is meant to do the compression.

Yes.
But I don't 'need' Compress to...

And I definitely don't need the 'Show more options' menu.
