Computer turns off after putting it into sleep mode

My computer turns off after putting it into sleep mode. My relative was using the PC, My pc was asleep and I think they shut down the PC while it was in sleep.. and now the PC always turns off when putting it in sleep mode...

How does this happen and how can I fix it?

Windows Version 24H2 (OS Build 26200.7171)

I ran SFC and DISM commands, Power Troubleshooter, reflashed BIOS and it still turns off when putting the PC into sleep.

Note: this user reported this same issue back in 2024 and said running power diagnostics fixed it at that time, so this is not a new issue . Refer to that post before spending a lot of time giving advice that might be repetitive.

Computer turns off every time when putting it to sleep after windows update KB5041587

Well new issue… I updated both PCs to KB5041587 (recent update geared towards AMD users) and the update seemed to mess up one of them. When ever I put the computer to sleep it shuts off. I uninstalled the update (KB5041587) and every time I try to open start menu it says something is corrupted...

So, are you saying this is a new occurrence OR that it was never fixed in 2024?

There have been 3 bios updates for that board in 2025, the latest 8/6/25 7E06v1G. Have you flashed that version?

I never bother with sleep mode. More trouble than its worth.

If I'm going to be away from my PC for a long time, I turn it off.

New occurrence. I already had the latest BIOS update, reflashed and the computer still shuts down after sleep. My relative wanted to play a game on my PC, when they were at my PC it was in sleep mode. They turned it off, then on and now the PC shuts down every time I put it into sleep.

It probably sounds stupid (and it may well be) but I would create a new local user account to test with. Shut down and then login to new account.. Unless denied by group policy, each user account has own sleep setting. Using the new account at its default sleep setting, observe sleep behavior to see if the system shuts down instead of sleep.

One question: Does the PC shutdown immediately after putting to sleep or only after some period of time? Is it possible that it goes to sleep normally and then later hibernates? Hibernation would look like it is fully shutdown (and it is, it just saves the system state to a hibernation file first).

If that is a possibility, then you may just want to check what the hibernation timeout is and lengthen it or turn it off completely.

I don't think it's sleep settings. Also, tried everything in my old thread, didn't work. I had to take out PSU half way and plug out everything and plug it back in.

PC would shut off immediately when putting it into sleep mode. But I took out the PSU half way and re-plugged everything in. Also, reseated GPU.

Sleep seems to work now. Will monitor it over a few days/weeks.
