Update installs work OK - just clean installs whether using ISO's from UUPDUMP or the ms site.

I've given up with W11 new installs on this computer for the moment - it fails whether as a VM or a real machine, whether on real HDD's or vhdx files. None of the 10 zillion fixes on google work nor scannow or other commands to fix system files.


If this nonsense is going to happen when bog standard users finally do a mass switch -- I wouldn't like to be I.T admin !!!!

Lol i clicked on it to see what you mean't, Took me two clicks to get what the link was for ( Not that i want it or need it but i was curious what you meant), If people cant tell the difference on what to click and what not to click on a webpage..especially nowadays then god help us xD Ps. it worked for me

Just an update. The geniuses behind Defender Control have made a statement that they will no longer be updating the [only] working method to disable Windows Defender. The link is here.

The reason is as follows:

Microsoft does not want Defender to be turned off completely. Therefore, when defender is turned off, windows update or windows component is trying to repair Defender and as a result Defender may become corrupt. Of course a malicious program may also corrupt Defender completely. (If there is no different security software in windows, when Defender is turned off)
Microsoft is constantly taking new measures because it does not want Defender to be turned off.

False positives have been a thing in computing for atleast the last 20 years maybe more, They will always be a thing im afraid.

Have you ran files from VirusTotal? Many vendors have issues with false positives. For me, Windows Defender (including MsMpEng.exe) doesn't need to be running 24/7 especially when I'm streaming or watching a 4 or 6K video and my PC is struggling when Defender running in the background despite temporarily disabling it in the Security Menu.

MsMpEng.exe is very resource intensive on some computers. Especially older ones.
I've never worked out why it slows some computers down so much, but after manually disabling it on affected computers, the computer's performance significantly improves.

I suggest selling your secret to disabling MsMpEng.exe because aside from Sordum's Defender Control, nothing worked for me. It always returns.

Some YT videos are in 6K, although I can't remember which one I saw a while ago when connected to a big screen tv which was something like 6K (whatever p that is).

At first disable Tamper and Real Protection in Defender, then install 3rd party AV (Adaware), update it and restart.
Disable Defender's services, restart, uninstall 3rd party AV, restart and get used to Windows whining about no AV.

Um, well Im using Avast premiere which of course going into windwos settings shows that Avast did take over. I also have defender disabled somewhere in settings, I also turned off EVERY single thing possible in defender settings(exploit, etc etc). I have had not only Keygens but legit software and websites being blocked or thrown into the Virus Vault..lol. So upon further reading and looking into the group policy and services section Defender is Still Running. [email protected] I want this stupid Defender to get defeated and go away forever, I dont want it ON ever.

Its fine I just run it to disable defender only as I then can re enable it at a later date.
It uses iObit in its script and it thinks its a Malicious file, Ive used it on all of my computers for a while now without any problems.
Once I run it I delete it and any iObit files left on my computers.
Again its totally up to you if you use it or not.
I'm on the latest Win11 22H2

I think this thread should be locked and the script post removed. One can't disable Defender permanently unless you disable Windows update. It needs to be repeated Windows will also try to repair itself in the background as often this may corrupt Defender beyond repair and the only solution is to restore a previous working image from backup. A system restore has virtually no chance of success.

I think I agree with you -- I messed around with that (not really sure why it's worth even thinking of removing WD - it works better than anything else out there for domestic machines currently) - but it broke windows so quickly you could hear the smashing panes of glass everywhere.
