Disk Drill software

Has anyone used the Disk Drill software for deleted files as I deleted the Windows.old some time ago thinking it would free up my C: drive little knowing that it made no difference to my laptop at all.
The software is free and asks for full access to the machine and that is making me a little wary about using it.

I would try Recuva, first...

WinfrGUI is a free program for Windows 11 and 10 that helps recover deleted files from your PCs.

Why do you say deleting Windows.old makes no difference? It should free about 4GB OD DISK SPACE,

Unfortunately, there are way too many that advocate leaving GB's of junk on the HD. Like they were fertilizing a garden.
BS is fine, if you're growing mushrooms, but not in a computer.
And, an age old theme, that I subscribe to, is, "If it's not needed, get rid of it!" That goes for apps, programs, and of course, temp files of all descriptions.
Somewhere and somehow, and in some way, every bit of junk on your computer affects its operation,,,,, Negatively!

That's why I wrote my Win11Cleanup.bat program (DOS Batch File) and in just one day it got rid of 160k junk files. Most of those were junk from Firefox and Edge, with a few more from 'Prefetch' and other temp file archives.

I won't say I have a really OLD computer, but it uses vacuum tubes. JUST JOKING!!!
But it does have a BIOS date of 2008. And, my secret of keeping my PC running a monstrous OS like Win-11/Pro/64, is to keep it as neat and clean as possible.

I know that one day, this motherboard will die, just like the one that preceded it, so I do semi-daily backups.

Deleting temporary internet files can only slow down browsing since they will have to be downloaded again when you visit that site. This is true for many caches on your computer. Microsoft's Disk Clean Up will do this for you and can delete Windows.old which a batch file probably can't.

Disk Cleanup does NOT remove the temporary internet files from either Edge or Firefox.
And as for Windows OLD, I never do upgrades so never have that folder on my HD.
When I have found it on other computers, it's easily removed.

Disk Cleanup is specifically designed to remove junk that is created by MS Windows, not junk created by Installed Software, like Chrome or Firefox. It won't even clean up after Edge!
I don't mind, being corrected when I'm wrong, but make dang sure I'm wrong before you do. Eh Mate?

I'd try @Ghot's or @FreeBooter's suggestions first.

Exactly my point! TIF files won't slow you down, so MS doesn't remove them. Disk Cleanup has just removed 3.6Mb of TIFs from somewhere!
I'm just expressing an opinion, please don't be so touchy!
