Personalization Enable or Disable Notification Center in Windows 11

  • Staff
Notifications_banner.png

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable the ability to open the Notification Center for all or specific users in Windows 11.

Windows 11 puts notifications in the Notification Center (Win+N) on the taskbar corner where you can get to them instantly from the flyout.

You will also see the calendar flyout under the Notification Center flyout.

Starting with Windows 11 build 22610, you can disable opening the Notification Center and calendar flyouts via group policy.

You must be signed in as an administrator to enable or disable the Notification Center and calendar flyouts.

Contents

  • Option One: Enable or Disable Notification Center for All or Specific Users in Local Group Policy Editor
  • Option Two: Enable or Disable Notification Center for All Users using REG file

4 Save the REG file to your desktop.

5 Double click/tap on the downloaded REG file to merge it.

6 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

Hi Brink,
Thanks for creating the registry keys. But, I found out that these keys sometimes work and sometimes don't. Even when I run the .reg file and check in the registry, I don't find the registry entries mentioned in the .reg file. Thanks

Hello, and welcome. :-)

If Registry Editor is already open, then you may need to refresh (F5) it or close/reopen to see the change.

In addition to step 7 in option two.

Thanks for the reply. I guess we have a GPO in our organization that is overriding the reg key. Thanks again!
Or do you know if there is a way to bypass the GPO for the notification center?

If set by a GPO in your organization, then there's nothing you can do. :(

Is there any way to selectively remove just the notification flyout/card while showing the new calendar flyout (when the taskbar clock is clicked)? The closest I've found is using startallback or explorerpatcher to restore the windows 10 taskbar, but then it removes the quick settings panel which I want to keep.

It looks like this video shows what I want, but the user doesn't explain how they achieved this.
see taskbar calendar flyout here
also comments here seem to discuss reg edits to do this, but they don't work in 22H2

Currently running:

OS build 22623.1028

@lowestprime

You can't really shut off the Notifications :(
You can add the clock to the calendar, but can only add the seconds on the Insider versions 25247 or higher.

/edit

If you haven't already done so... the best you can do with Notifications is this...

Got to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PushNotifications

...and set ToastEnabled to 0 (zero)

hmm, what about restoring the win10 taskbar with startallback (or its underlying tweaks/reg edits), and then restoring the quick settings panel so the calendar is the only taskbar change. I wonder if this is possible? Currently, I'm using the whole win10 taskbar, but I actually like the win11 quicksettings panel. :(

Anything to do with StartAllBack would be here. I don't use that program.

For Explorer Patcher...

The only things I use are Winaero Tweaker, Vive Tool (which sort of works), and the tutorials.

Well, I also use TranslucentTB and RoundedTB to make the Taskbar... clear.

Hello! I uploaded the video you have linked here. I want to inform you that I was still running Windows 11 21H2. My PC is unsupported for Windows 11, and I hadn't archived everything yet, in order to reformat the machine and force the next feature update 22H2 (Microsoft doesn't offer feature updates on unsupported PCs). The Notifications panel would disappear after clearing all notifications in the previous version of Windows 11.
