This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable showing the writing assistance blue dot hint on the blinking cursor in Microsoft Edge for your account in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Microsoft Edge is the AI-powered browser. A smarter way to browse. As the only browser built and optimized for Windows, it’s AI-powered tools are designed to help you make the most of your time online. Whether you’re searching, shopping or gaming, AI-powered tools and a security-first approach help you stay productive, save money, and get things done your way.

Editor is built into Microsoft Edge to help you write with confidence wherever you type online. It offers AI-powered writing assistance—like spelling, grammar, and synonym suggestions—along with text prediction to help you finish sentences faster and stay in your flow. Together, these tools help you write more clearly and efficiently across the web.

When you have Use writing assistance turned on in Edge, it will show writing hints by default. These hints is a blue dot occasionally showing on the blinking cursor in a text (reply) box in Edge to help you discover writing assistance. If you hover on the blue dot, you will see a writing assistance edit (pencil) button to click/tap on to start writing assistance.

You can turn off show writing hints to no longer see the blue dot on the blinking cursor without having to turn off Use writing assistance. When show writing hints is turned off, you would just need to hover on the blinking cursor to see the writing assistance edit (pencil) button to click/tap on to start writing assistance.

If you turn off Use writing assistance, it will also disable show writing hints.
