Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
This driver thingi reminds me of my HP laser printer.. It was made in 1995(i still use it today.. or latest was yesterday late evening)😎
There was no driver support for windows 7.. absolutely latest drivers was made for windows XP. So i installed the printer on my XP computer, then extracted the driver files and implanted them on my win7 machine. 🤓
Windows XP printer drivers work on Windows Vista and 7 32-bit. Windows XP x64 drivers work on Vista and 7 64-bit. Not sure if the latter can be forced on Windows 11, haven't tried, but Windows Vista 64-bit or higher should work fine. In worst case Windows Update has Microsoft drivers for most old printers, but I would prefer the official OEM drivers, if any, which are much better.

I just got 8 post deleted in the windows age thread for being a bit off-topic so i dont want to get deleted here too.. so i only do this post as a fast answer :-)
I used 32 bit drivers to win7 64 bit. and it worked.. was i lucky.. perhaps.. or windows just is good on handle both.
But i will not try higher.. i took an old XP-home laptop and turned it into a tiny printerserver so i can use the printer over my Lan. :-)

Most likely the drivers where 32-bit and 64-bit combo. If they were only 32-bit they wouldn't install on Windows 11.

Another use for an old laptop: Retro gaming. Just install old casual games, such as Popcap Bejeweled or an old computer/console emulator and enjoy. Or you can convert it to media player. You should be able to play at least standard definition video. With an active VGA to HDMI adapter you can even connect it to your TV.

Well, just out of curiosity I tried the nodev method in the video and it made no difference. Legacy CSM is enabled so that's not the problem either. I think I'll just pop the card back in the gaming rig (the only gaming PC I ever built for myself) once I rebuild it. This is yet another project on ice that I plan to do since I bought a different case for the old HERO. It seemed pointless to put an HBA card into a gaming rig so I pulled the card. Besides one of the pins holding the heat sink on got brittle and broke off. These cards can get mega hot. The card has been serviced, Windows does see it and identifies it. The hardware is running correctly. I just can't seem to get it running on Win 11.

This is for manually adding hardware if Windows doesn't detect it. If it detects it, there should be an entry somewhere in Device Manager. You can right-click on this entry and select Update drivers. Then select the second option (manually). Then again the second option (manually) and click on Have disk to browse to the driver files.

I have already attempted the method you described. It will say that Windows has found the drivers but there was a problem installing. Device manager says that the card is working correctly. There is a slight chance that the card needs to be re-flashed as I recall doing something with it to make it work in my AMD gaming rig (silly me). I really don't have a ton of games to justify that much storage. I built myself a gaming rig because it was on my bucket list. After building so many for others I thought I'd build one for myself, play around with overclocking and that sort of thing. It could just be that this card won't work on an Intel platform until it gets flashed again.

Why don't you just keep the card in the old computer, connect your disks and share them via network? This will convert them to NAS. With today's network speed you won't notice any difference unless you transfer large files.

That was what I was doing with it before but, to be honest, I didn't really want my gaming rig on the home network. I'll fiddle with it some more and if my ideas crash and burn I'll just put it aside for the AMD rebuild. Right now I'm on Linux but there's no rush. ;-)

Well I had a similar issue. I replaced my old PCIe to USB 3.0 card with a combo PCIe SATA III and USB 3.0 card because my main PC (2nd system specs) has SATA II ports only. The official ASMedia drivers on the CD-ROM wouldn't install properly in Windows 11, so I trusted Windows Update to install drivers. These worked fine until recently some Windows update changed something in the USB code. My USB 3.0 flash drive would not be detected and once it did it couldn't see any data. Thankfully I Googled the device description and found newer official ASMedia drivers on Dell's Support site which probably Dell provided for their own laptops. In fact I found more than one results so I asked Google AI to sort them by the most recent. I downloaded the latest version from 2020 which works fine and I would bet is faster than the now defunct Microsoft drivers. So use a utility such as Speccy or Aida64 to determine exactly what chipset is on your card and try to locate the newest possible 64-bit official drivers. These should work on Windows 11. Remember that any 64-bit driver should work, even for Vista 64-bit. It doesn't have to be for Windows 10/11.

Yeah, I seem to recall you had a problem with space to run your SATA II plus USB and had to find a specialized card. The old memory is a bit dim but I'm pretty sure that was the issue. I did run some software to determine what was best after getting the "latest" Avago/Broadcom/LSI drivers from their own site but this turned up nothing and the latest driver I could find was for Windows 10 64 bit. I thought perhaps my issue was not having Legacy enabled in CSM but that wasn't the problem. I'm probably best off doing what you suggested and just using my gaming rig as a NAS since I don't game on it much anyway. BUT... You know how it is when something doesn't work ya JUST gotta fix it.

If that's the last version try a previous version. At my work we have an old computer with an nVidia GeForce 4 graphics card that was running Windows XP. I gradually upgraded from XP to Vista 32-bit and then from Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 32-bit which is the maximum supported by its very old Intel Celeron socket 478 (32-bit, doesn't support NX/PAE). There are no WDDM graphics drivers (Vista or higher) for the graphics card, so I installed the Windows XP driver and used it without Aero (aka XPDM mode). However there was an incompatibility issue with partially supported DirectX 9.0 and every time the screensaver or another application tried to use hardware acceleration I had a BSOD. One inconvenient workaround was to disable hardware acceleration but then I could use almost no graphics application or screensavers. After some Googling I discovered an older version of the Windows XP graphics driver that supports up to DirectX 8.1, not DirectX 9.0. That did the trick! I now can use any screensaver and graphics application I want and even play some videos with software rendering. So try some older versions of the driver and you might find one that works on Windows 11 without the dreaded Code 10 error.

PS: The Windows 10 64-bit driver might expect some system files that are deprecated and removed in recent Windows 11 builds. Try using the Windows 7 64-bit driver, if any, which should include these files or doesn't need them. I have done that too for some devices.

Well, I'm not going to use Win 7 drivers on this card and I've already tried Vista and Win 8.1 drivers. Now I'm beginning to wonder if I fried the card lol 😆

If I did it's no big loss. I got it for a song years ago. There may be more to this code 10 than just a driver issue. (see pic).

Did not use to say "I/O adapter hardware error" so I'm guessing maybe the card is toast. I'll save it for the AMD rebuild and see if it still works there. If not , no big loss.

Okay, okay... So I apologize for vacillating but you know how it is... I just had to try "one more thing!' and lo, and behold, one more thing worked! (I also apologize for the gross hard water streaks on the monitor that once upon a time my daughter was using and I was too lazy to bother etc. etc. and I apologize for apologizing when there really is no need to apologize but I am from Canada after all so sorry. )

So here's the deal: I thought I would try just pulling the MegaSAS2 file and leaving it out completely instead of putting it back as per video. I then proceeded to install the nodev file and it installed successfully. I rebooted and was greeted with this:

Are you 100% sure about the chipset on the card? From my own experience Code 10 error usually means incompatible drivers, thst is the driver is for a different model and you tried to force it.

Aha! I was right in my previous post. Code 10 error does mean mismatched drivers. I see a different model in the screenshot. Been there done that.

I'm positive about the chipset on the card. I selected the drivers for an LSI 9267 card and that is precisely what the card is, annoying battery alarm and all. The fix for it was to remove a file from the install package. After this I reinstalled updated drivers the lazy man's way, using a driver updater app because as one illustrious member here stated previously, Broadcom makes things sooo easy to find. It's all good now. :)
