FastStone Image Viewer is a fast, stable, user friendly image browser, converter and editor.

FastStone Image Viewer Version 7.8 (September 28, 2023)

  • Added "Search by Name" to toolbar above thumbnail browser
  • Added drag-and-drop functionality to viewing panel. You can drag and drop image or video files from external sources (e.g. Windows File Explorer) into image viewing area to view files directly
  • Added Shadows and Highlights to batch conversion tool (Advanced Options -> Adjustments)
  • Added Contrast and Gamma options to Scan Board
  • Added keyboard shortcuts to change "Auto Image Size" option. Press Ctrl+Shift+K for "Auto Fit". Press Ctrl+Shift+L for "Lock Zoom Ratio"
  • Added more options to "Mouse Click" in Settings window
  • Added "Load from File" and "Save to File" in Settings window
  • Added support for AVIF format
  • Presets in Resize tool are customizable
  • Moved Rename tool to a higher position to avoid covering the center of the image
  • Enhanced Draw Board:
    • Added Text with effects (curve, outline and shadow)
    • Added Emojis
    • Added preset color lists (click * button to select a preset color)
    • Flip/Rotate image objects
    • Zoom In/Out ranging from 1% to 5000%
    • When editing text, press Ctrl+Del or Ctrl+Backspace to delete an entire word
  • Enhanced PSD format support
  • Enhanced Wallpaper support on Windows 10/11
  • Improved loading speed of Apple DNG raw files
  • Fixed compatibility issue with iOS 17 when importing photos/videos from iPhone
  • Many other small improvements and bug fixes

I just had a quick look at FastStone Image Viewer in my sandbox, and the only Open Folder choices I saw were in the C:\Users folders. I have nothing at all in those. How do I jump to my own images folders on D:?

It handles animated GIFs well too.

It also has a Draw Board similar to FastStone Capture, but with not as many tools.

I was thinking of going back to the previous version 7.8 to see if it still happens.

If you look at the 7.9 change log, it says that it fixes a Windows 11 24H2 compatibility issue. I thought that may have had something to do with it.

I just loaded a bunch of images in both versions, I didn't see a difference.

I think it was a false alarm.

I have trouble with new the version - All the miniatures are black only! I can open it normaly, even the preview on the left side is visible, but all the miniatures- black :/

I have the newer version 7.9 (but 7.8 before that) and never had any problems like yours. But as you have a rather unique file format .ARW, which appears to be a "Sony Alpha Raw, a Sony raw image", the first question would be: what happens if you view normal .JPG files?

Edit:
Downloaded some .ARW sample files and viewed them in FS Image viewer 7.9.
Result:

As I don't want to break any copyrights, all images are blurred, as are most of my folder names.

But the appearance is very normal, so the problem must be somewhere else. Probably some settings of FS Image Viewer or your Windows settings. and (unknown) version.

I haven't used that file format. Maybe thumbnails don't display at that size.
Does File Explorer display thumbnails for that file format?
