I have 21H2 on the new machine (used Surface Laptop 3). Strange - it had W10 2004 installed and asked me if I wanted to upgrade to 21H2 - so I did and it downloaded and installed in about 2 minutes! Bypassing all the in between upgrades. Reckon it must have downloaded in the background already. Unless Microsoft prioritise their speedier downloads to Surface machines!

I've been waiting to be hacked as you say every since win-7 eol so yeah it's been a while so where are they man should be plenty of security holes so why no exploits as you say and plenty of other scaremongers say :boom:

If stupid it won't take a hacker to exploit anyone out of the blue it will take an idiot clicking on unknown senders and sometimes known senders email message that contain maybe only a few words and a link saying check this out and also only relying on windows defender to save them even on win-10 so yeah os and updates really means very little.

I have a 16 year old HP laptop running both XP and 7. Both OS are somewhat protected by AV programs that still work and receive definition updates. In XP, Avast still has a free version for XP that gets the latest definitions but no program updates. In 7, I was using the free Bitdefender but they recently plugged the plug on it. I installed MSE on it and even though Windows Update does not work, MSE gets the latest definitions automatically. Avast would also work but the version for 7 is very bloated compared to the older one that works on XP.

Does not change the fact that telling people there is no risk is not true.

In my humble opinion, it's questionable MS will really brick your Windows 11, in the future. The generally considered harsh requirements pertain to installation, mostly; after that, it seems MS no longer cares. You can, for instance, even disable secure boot again afterwards. So, my feeling is, that, once you have it installed, MS won't keep repeating the checks.

Wrong. They already are and people on unsupported machines are receiving notifications.

Isn't that only for those signed up to the Insider program? My unsupported install has never has any such notifications since its upgrade from RTM W10 to RTM W11.

Really? I have Win11 running on three unsupported PCs and I have not yet received any notifications. My only Insider machine is fully compliant with Win11.

Whatever MS does or does not do with regard to enforcing compliance is their business. What I find really irritating bordering on despicable is that they won't just come out and say what they're going to do, and when they're going to do it. I've gone back to Win10 for Windows needs. I have saved an image of the latest Win11 in case MS declares they will support Win11 on machines they have supported so far. Until they do, no more Win11 for me. If they don't want me to have it, I don't want to have it. I will not play this game.

The fact that you have been able to make Windows 11 run on a machine that doesn't meet the minimum requirements doesn't mean that said installation is supported by Microsoft. All it means is that you have been able to make it run.

Support is provided by Microsoft for systems that meet the published specification and as they own the software - you are only granted a licence to use it - they can enforce the minium requirements specification whenever they wish.

In exactly the same position - two compliant machines, and one not for which I've saved its W10 disk (actually a 64 Gb SSD). Plus I also know what a new motherboard/processor/memory would cost should I decide to go that way. I've done this with my eyes open and decided I would like to maintain a common OS within our household.

Hardware has developed significantly since W10 first came out. I think it's unreasonable to expect MS to make every new Windows version installable and supported on all previous Windows hardware, however old. I expect MS will at some point start to exploit recent hardware changes which is when some older non-compliant machines may hit problems.

I purchased 3 Windows 7 licences in 2009 when MS had a special deal: they cost me £45 each and were full retail licences. Since then I've not spent a penny with MS for Windows, and am very pleased (and somewhat surprised) that this outlay 13 years ago has so far provided me with 6 years of W7 support, 6 years of W10 support and now ongoing W11 support.

Yes, I know, exactly, that was the entire point of my post. I got on board during the Insiders period, and have received every update since then. If they are going to cut that off, fine. If they are not, fine. I JUST WANT TO KNOW. But MS is the rock-bottom worst at communications in the history of the modern corporation.
