Gadgets in Windows 11?


Hello!
I also use 8gadgetpack on Windows 11. Yes the CPU gadget works perfectly and I can see the meters getting higher when my system is busy doing something. Also I don't use MSN weather, I use My Weather (Mein Wetter, if I remember correctly). Updating 8gadgetpack also updates this gadget because some order versions could not read the weather right and were stuck with the icon and no text.

Very interesting but we are here to help the OP. Not tell him he should not use gadgets. Why not? I don't like when Microsoft disabled features in newer Windows versions. Thanks to third-party applications we can have desktop gadgets, Windows Media Center, old calculator (not the huge ugly modern version), Windows Classic games (Solitaire, Mahjong Titans etx). and many others, so we don't miss a thing using Windows 10 or 11. We can even make the start button and start menu look exactly like those of Windows 7. I went too far as to replace the simple flat system icons with the beautiful 3D system icons of Windows 7 and 8.1, including the network and volume icons. Just check the respective threads in Personalization section.

I am not skilled programmer. I was using GW-Basic and I learned a little Pascal and C when in University. I prefer using a gadget that suits me, not write my own. Besides I hardly see the gadgets since usually I have some application window maximized.

Core Temp updates the CPU load % once a second. Core Temp averages the load for the two threads on each core. Task Manager shows the load for indivdual threads. I am not sure how to compare the two.

BTW, I have a Ryzen 7 6800H CPU in my laptop. When I bought my laptop Core Temp didn't show accurate results for this CPU family. I am not sure whether that was ever fixed. I am only interested in approximate loads and temperatures for the CPU so the current status is OK.

Thank for reply. Here, it does not work. I use CPU meter gadget, it shows 1-3% when Task Manager shows 10-12%, which is huge difference. Tested on Windows 10, it shows same value as Task Manager and that is why I thought both of them should show the same CPU use percentage. I still think that Task Manager shows total CPU usage, not only one core usage.

I haven't heard of that one. Do you mean gadgetsrevived? If so I have not used it. I use 8GadgetPack. The two weather gadgets I have tried from it work fine.

Note I have consequently updated the My Weather gadget from the developers website My Weather (gadget). It was last updated this year 2024.

I have not checked to see if there is an update to the MSN Weather gadget.

As far as I know the official Microsoft (MSN) Weather gadget had stopped working some months ago, I don't know if there is any fix. If you mean the My Weather (Mein Wetter) gadget, you need the latest version. Old versions try to use old servers that are no longer valid and fail. Google for My Weather gadget and download the latest version or simply install latest 8gadgetpack which includes it.

If you look at my screenshots which I did today you will see that both the MSN Weather and the My Weather gadgets are showing current up-to-date weather information. The problem is programs like 8GadgetPack has gadgets that are at best as new as its last release. To get the most current release of any gadget you have to go to the developer website.

The problem with the MSN Weather gadget is there is no way to know how old it is. The My Weather gadget has an "about" that shows it version. The screenshot below indicates the version installed is v8.1.6 with a 2024 copyright date.

I just updated from My Weather 7.9.2 to 8.1.6 Thanks for the link. Frequently updating makes sure it always works right. Very old versions freeze because they cannot find the server.

I don't know why My Weather 7.9.2 was not working for you. Before I last posted I noticed I was running My Weather 7.6.3. I thought that had been running OK but I updated to My Weather 8.1.6 anyways. In any case I am glad you got it working.

BTW, My Weather updates the weather information several times a day. One problem with My Weather 7.6.3 was that it didn't appear to be always working in timely manner. My Weather 8.1.6 appears to have corrected that problem.

Versions from 6.5 (I think) and newer work. Older versions don't. My 7.9.2 works OK, but why not have the latest?

It does work. I needed to download a different weather gadget and uninstall the deprecated default one and it shows up!
