Solved Google shortcuts changed to MS Edge logo

It seems that Microsoft Edge browser has taken over all functions from Google.
I tried to make a new short cut in google, but the short cut turns in a MS Edge logo.
While the short cut still takes me to the website, it seems to revert to the Edge browser.
It is not a crucial thing, but I don't like it.
I am not sure, but I think it started after the last window update or I mistakenly made Edge the default browser.
However I changed that back to google, but the shortcuts stayed in the Edge logo.

please try
right click the short cut and on that menu 'open with'

then click 'choose another app'
click Google
and then at the bottom of that menu click 'always'

the short cuts should then use Google as the default

I did click on the google short cut, then I had to sign in.
After that I clicked on settings, it opened up as a Microsoft acount.
I clicked on the browser setting, and it showed Edge asgoogle.webp the deault browser.
I have no Idea how to change it at this point.
I could not make any other browser set as default, only turn of any extensions from MS Edge.

Try to manually change the file types that Google Chrome can open
  1. Open Settings and go to Apps.
  2. Select Default apps.
  3. Scroll down to find Google Chrome and click on it.
  4. You will see a list of file types and protocols. You are specifically interested in the following file types. (.htm, .html, http, https, pdf). In the list of file types, select each of those protocols individually, a list pops up. Select Chrome from the list.

I set everything to google as default, but when I go to setings, it still revert to Edge settings.

To the original poster @Vonda
If it did not fwork for you I would create a new user account to test with. Make it a local account as an administrator.
Restart and log into the test account. See if you can successfully make Chrome the default browser in that account. If you can, that indicates corruption in YOUR user account and not in Windows itself.
