Right, CUPS is basically the reference implementation. Windows has had IPP since like Windows 2000, so not really a huge brag for Linux or anything. :)

No problems with Linux here. I have macOS and Linux devices in my house. I just don't talk about them much because this is a Windows forum.

I can guess. I have the PnP printer, which is much more basic. Once I bought a set of generic lablels, like $15 instead of $43 from Dymo. But, but, but, it was very hard to peel the backing tape off the generic labels. I ended up wasting a lot of time, fingernails, and tape itself.

It depends on the quality of the generic tape. Yours probably was very bad. Try another brand.
