I disagree with using a deprecated version as it is no longer supported thereafter.Yes, I totally agree!
When they do introduce their paid version, the free version will be deprecated.
As such, grab it when it has more or less stabilized. Install it and create a rescue disk for future use.
It is now already quite good. That tells me any upgrades in the coming paid versions will be minor or just window dressing.
This is exactly the same reason why many choose not to use Macrium Reflect Free / V8 any more albeit they still work fine now.
At some point, MS could make a Windows change that breaks a deprecated version.
That happened once on an Insider version breaking Macrium Reflect a few years back BUT as Reflect was still supported, fix was issued the bypassed the Windows bug that was introduced. Proper support is key factor for image backups whether product is free or paid.
Of course, one should not put all ones eggs in a basket and use a single image backup tool.
