Hiding the Taskbar

I'm currently setting up my PC with custom themed software as I usually do (first time on Windows 11 though). I've tried a lot of "hide the taskbar" apps and the only one I'm happy with so far is Stardock Objectdock. This is fine, but it would be great if there was a small app that hides the taskbar well yet keeps it functional as I'm probably just going to set up Objectdock as a blank, fully transparent dock, and tuck it into a corner somewhere. This solution feels like overkill. So far I've tried TaskBarHider (which doesn't work and doesn't look like it's been updated in a while), Buttery-Taskbar, and a few I found on Windhawk. Nothing seems to work all that well. Any suggestions? I am running Windows 11 24H2.

Welcome to the forum. I can't give you any suggestions about third party software as I no longer use any that affect the GUI. For me, the side-grief such software can cause is just not worth it. Some here use every such software under the sun so one will step in, I'm sure. Windows own "hide the taskbar" works just fine.

here is an autohotkey script compiled to .exe. runs in tray, doesnt use any resources.

CTRL + `

will hide/show taskbar

People want to do what they want to do no matter how confusing I deem it to be. The personalisation requests I see, some seem not to be not worth the effort when potential fixes are offered.
Having said that, I use Start11v2 and Fences6 so I can’t really talk.

With Start11 I can make the icons as small as I want which reduces the taskbar size. But the taskbar is super important to me, as I hardly ever use the Start Menu, everything I want to do is on the TaskBar, including custom link menue’s etc (Thanks Start11)

The Windows 11 taskbar's height typically occupies around 2-3% of the desktop screen, although this can vary slightly depending on display settings and scaling. As mentioned, the native AutoHide Taskbar that is available in Windows works.

If losing 2-3% of your desktop is a hassle, get a bigger monitor and reduce the scaling?

If that isn’t an option, and Windows AutoHide Taskbar isn’t what you’re looking for (I can’t see why not though) use dacrones’ script.

I have always wanted my 'task bar' there, and so I set it t leave it there, but the damned software and app makers do not let us size their apps to be able to see the 'OK' button, or 'continue' but many times.. and i have to go through the hassle of going in and setting it to hide taskbar to see the full app on the screen! Sometimes I still cannot see the app, and the damned app maker makes it so the app cannot be moved or resized to see all the menus and commands. I have asked a couple of the app makers why they don't let us changes sizes and there is always some b.s. excuse.

I’ve never seen an app or any software that does this, I am interested. Can you give an example?

Plenty of room on the taskbar if I wanted to stick everything down there, my monitor is 43" wide! :-)

Yeah, I don’t have an issue either, as I make each taskbar autonomous.

I've had occasions where I couldn't see buttons so I just press F11 to get Full Screen [not the same as Maximized] to get rid of toolbars/statusbars to get more screen room. Using F11 again or Esc returns it.

Doesn't Windows 11 have an auto hide taskbar feature in settings? why the need for third party software?

So that OP can hide it until they want it unhidden. That script I posted does that via hotkey combo. Even mouseover won’t unhide it.

Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors > Automatically hide the tasktbar

I've used the above setting for years. I want a clean desktop with no taskbar so I can work with full screen apps and full screen trading charts. Whenever I need the taskbar, all I have to do is move my cursor to the bottom of the screen and up it pops, move the cursor back to work with my apps and the taskbar obediently disappears again!

You can also right click the Taskbar and use 'taskbar settings" to get there.

Correct. Will the script run at startup, hiding the taskbar? Or do I need a bat file to run and pass CTRL + `?

it isnt a batch file, its an ahk compiled into an exe. just create a shorcut to the exe and place it in
Shell:Startup
to launch it at logon

you will have to pass that keycombo once to hide it. i can rewrite the script and recompile it to auto hide the taskbar at launch and require the keycombo only to unhide it if you want it that way

I'm playing around with it isn't working. The hotkey is <ctrl~> correct? Will it only work unless it's launched from startup?
