For years I have been using Ccleaner to do basically one thing and that is to clean my browsing history automatically when I close the browser. I know there is manual ways to do it but I have always wanted it done automatically when I closed my browser, 95% Chrome.

People on this forum have mentioned other things like bleach bit and others that do much more than clean browsing history, every one I tried still didn't clean automictic on close. My Ccleaner is coming up for renewal and I don't want to renew it. So I started my search again for something that is the one things I wanted and that was cleaning browsing history.

I wanted to share for those who might want the same thing this extension I found that does exactly what I wanted. It is called "History Auto Cleaner" it is a simple extension that does what I want and no more. I'll insert a screenshot to show the options, it may not suit a lot of you but if you are like me and don't trust apps to make all kinds of changes to my system and only want browsing history clean on close of browser it does that great!

Hope this helps others.

When the browser crashes, the history is not removed, because the extension crashes too.🙃
I have not had that problem and nothing else does the process when closing the browser except Ccleaner. Don't want to get in a big debate about it if it is something you might want use it if not fine.

As long as it works for you, it is OK. Actually I have not seen a browser to crash in years, but it was worth mentioning. I myself rely on 3+1 ways to clear history before shutdown: 1. Clear on close, 2. Wise Disk Cleaner, 3. Manual Cleanup. +RAMdisk in case of a crash.

Thanks, Yes I use that and Firefox isn't an issue for me, it is GOOGLE chrome who wants to rule the world and know everything we do. OK that is a bit much but I think everyone feels the same.

Just so you know, clearing browser data does not help you regain complete anonymity..., plus it makes the browser have to work harder and slower all over again.

Yes I know but the cleaning history is what I like and want. Not trying to hide form the police or anything. I just hate my history showing when I start to type in search space. Thanks for your reply

The OP has an obsession with cleaning his history and we have to respect that.
He probably doesn’t want anyone else to know what sites he has frequented.

I don’t visit any sites that I would have a problem with anyone seeing. What I don’t like is, every time I begin to type something into my Google search box, there’s still lot of searches that come up, that I no longer need. Obsession? Yes, I do have an obsession with clearing all my history, and cookies and etc. normally before I shut the PC down. Yes, I guess we all have our obsessions, mine is ice cream. 😁
