Solved Windows Update Offering Old NVidia Driver Update

I just updated to the latest NVidia driver version 617.14 but Windows Update is pushing an older version 610.88 (see below). How to stop Windows Update offering this old version?

I worked out all you do it pause then resume updates then it doesn't offer the old driver. The Windows Update page is poorly designed since if a driver is offered there is no check for updates button only a button download and install all items. Another software QA fail for MS.

That may not happen ALL the time.
There's been hundreds of posts over the years, where a driver included in WU, corrupted or installed an older driver.

There's also this, if you ever need it....


I used this to block my vid card driver from updating.
I've yet to test if it also blocks a manual vid card driver install.

That's on my To-Do list. I'll test that w/e Win 11 bugs give me a break.

One of the first things I do is stop Windows from updating my drivers!

Either use Microsoft's Windows Update Show/Hide Tool, or Windows Automatic Updates Manager (aka WAU Manager), both available on Major Geeks. Contrary to Microsoft's claims when it had the Tool available at their site that works on early Windows 10 versions, I have confirmed it myself that it works on all Windows 10 and 11 versions. In rare cases where it cannot scan for updates, I use WAU Manager instead. Both utilities scan for updates and present you a list, much like good old Windows Update in Windows 7 and earlier versions. From that list you check the box of the update you want to hide (block), so it won't appear when running Windows Update, and of course won't automatically install. Very effective for old computers to prevent Windows Update replace the perfectly working official manufacturer drivers or prevent a certain cumulative update known to cause incompatibilities from installing.
