How I do reset virtual memory? Is it possible?

Haven't had to do it in awhile but used to just turn off Virtual Memory/paging file/swap file, run Defrag on the HDD drives, reboot and reset VM as the same number in Max and Min. Doing so kept all fragments of the file together, did help with drive access speed 'back then', newer computers and drives got faster. SSDs are different. Earlier Windows had the written recommendation in Help and Support of 2.5 times the physical memory then later it changed to 1.5 times. Last several years I have left it alone but I'm not a game and no longer work with large data files like spreadsheets and data bases. The size to use also depends upon the disk space, I like to keep 20% free.

Sure many guides online, but tbh if you set it, set it to auto.

It is in systems, advanced settings menus.

What's the exact version of Windows, you are on?

Type: winver in the Taskbar search box.


MS moved "Advanced system settings", up near the top of the "About" page.
Then... choose No Paging File and reboot. (step #6)
Then choose Custom Size (step #7), and set the Minimum and Maximum size to the same number (step #8)

I just turned it off, then restart PC and turn it back on and it asked if I wanted to overwrite pagefile.sys clicked yes and restart PC. It seemed to free up half the space it was taking.
