How to switch off AI face recognition?


Some tablets & cameras themselves have proximity sensors, so they auto-sleep. My propped up iPad goes to sleep when I disappear for enough time.

Time-of-flight sensor

The time-of-flight sensor (also referred to as a ToF sensor) emits an infrared laser and uses the reflected infrared energy to measure the distance and depth of objects in front of it. The data collected by the sensor can be used to detect human presence or recognize gestures.
Note: The infrared laser emitted by the ToF sensor is invisible to the human eye.

Laser safety information
This device is classified as a Class 1 consumer laser product per IEC 60825-1:2014, EN 60825-1:2014 +A11:2021, and EN 50689:2021. This device complies with FDA performance standards for laser products except for conformance with IEC 60825-1 Ed. 3, as described in Laser Notice No. 56, dated May 8, 2019

And, from LBL,

Class 1

This class is eye-safe under all operating conditions. A Class 1 laser is safe for use under all reasonably anticipated conditions of use; in other words, it is not expected that the MPE can be exceeded.

There is also an IR LED to provide illumination for the laptop's camera.

I don't know what "pumpkinwillow" is seeing. Human eyes vary in their responses to near IR.

If you're paranoid about either, I suggest sticking some opaque tape over them. The manual has no mention of disabling either.

OK I went into Device Manager, found cameras. I disabled the IR sensor, but even 'after' disabling, it is still pulsating (when I look through smartphone camera.)
There is an option on there to uninstall the IR sensor. Is there anything else I can muck by doing that please?

As others have mentioned just stick some tape over it. Solved.

I am seeing a flashing light, next to the camera (which has a shutter over it). It looks like there is an option in Device Manger, to uninstall the IR. I will try that.

Settings > Accounts > Sign-in Options > Dynamic Lock
do you have that enabled?

Maybe, but I am not sure if it will stop IR lasers as I understand the rays can penetrate some things.

I've never heard anything like that before. Sounds pretty implausible.

Besides, I use one and I'm not worried about it.

Dynamic lock - this is not enabled. It is unticked.

I clicked on uninstall (including driver). It at first looked as if it was gone, but on restarting nothing has changed. So seems uninstallable after all. I will return the laptop and buy one without face recognition.
