As many of us has already found out, Win10 21h2 or Win10 22h2 or Win 11 21h2 installed on an incompatible hardware doesn't upgrade by itself to 22h2.
You have to use the Repair install method or In-Place Upgrade, that is, run setup.exe from a mounted and tweaked Win 11 22h2 iso.
  • Download Win 11 22h2 iso from here
  • Right click on the Win11_22H2_x64.iso file and select Mount.
  • On the virtual drive select ALL files and folders and select copy.
  • Create a Win11_22H2 folder. Paste the files on it.
  • Make sure "Hide known extensions" is NOT set under Explorer options.
  • Go to Win11_22H2\Sources and rename appraiserres.dll to appraiserres.dll.orig
  • On Win11_22H2\Sources, create a blank text file and rename to appraiserres.dll
  • Run Win11_22H2\Setup.exe
  • First, you must disconnect from the internet before attempting to upgrade an unsupported device to 22H2.
  • Second, you must choose how Setup checks for updates as 'not for now'.

It will upgrade to Win 11 22h2

So will it install ok as a clean install rather than an upgrade? Assuming you do the compatibility bypass stuff as usual.

Exactly, and with the option of keeping all files and applications installed or removing whatever you don't want.
Once installed download and install the windows11.0-kb5017321-x64 update ( Microsoft Update Catalog )
, because Iso installs build 22621.382.

I just pulled out my old computer and clean installed 22621.382 using Rufus. Upgraded to 22621.521 through WU :-)
It actually runs so much better on Win 11 than it did on Win 10. Just ordered a SSD for it because HDD's suck.

Is Explorer options set to show all extensions?
If not you probably have now appraiserres.orig.dll and appraiserres.dll.txt but what you see is appraiserres.orig and appraiserres.dll

Both files according to your guide are as follows
But I think the setupmgr.dll file should be edited
Please check it too because there is an error text in this file

Yes it will install easily as a clean install. And you don't have to bypass anything. Just plug in your USB stick and go from there.

I'm not sure the OPs method will continue to work or not. Perhaps it will. I installed clean this weekend and found out WIN11 now REQUIRES and internet connection to complete installation. This was on a compatible system. I then found out about a bypass during the install process.
"Shift + F10" where you have to connect to proceed. That will take you to a command prompt where you type in.....
OOBE\BYPASSNRO. This will cause a reboot which will take you through the selection process by bypass the connection requirement plus the need to enter a Microsoft account.
For me an issue was although I could get to the CMD prompt my wireless keyboard would not take an entry here but the wireless mouse continued to work. If I connected a wired keyboard(usb) I could then type the bypass and continue with installation.
The other option mentioned about is to use Rufus which now includes the ability to not only install to incompatible hardware but also bypass the need to connect to the internet or enter a Microsoft account.

I'm a computer enthusiast so have quite a few systems that I run. More like an advanced hobby.

Is Explorer options set to show all extensions?
If not you probably have now appraiserres.orig.dll and appraiserres.dll.txt but what you see is appraiserres.orig and appraiserres.dll
In this case, the first option for upgrade is not active

I want the files and software and Windows settings to remain

I'm quite sure you're using the wrong Win 11 22h2 iso language.
What Win 11 22h2 iso language is yours?

Thanks,

works like a charm.
I upgraded my HP desktop from Windows 11 Pro 21H2 to 22H2 following your procedure.

- Download Win 11 22h2 iso from MSFT web
- Right click on the Win11_22H2_x64.iso file and select Mount.
- On the virtual drive select ALL files and folders and select copy.
- Create a Win11_22H2 folder. Paste the files onto it.
- Make sure "Hide known extensions" is NOT set under Explorer options.
- Go to Win11_22H2\Sources and rename appraiserres.dll to appraiserres.dll.orig
- same folder Win11_22H2\Sources, create a blank text file and rename to appraiserres.dll
- Run Win11_22H2\Setup.exe
- First, you must disconnect from the internet before attempting to upgrade an unsupported device to 22H2.
- Second, you must choose how Setup checks for updates as 'not for now'.<-- na. NOT requested

Update

This method works on certain computers but NOT all.
With the procedure, I have successfully upgraded one HP desktop and one ASUS laptop but an MSI desktop upgrade (Windows 11 Pro from 21H2 to 22H2) failed because of compatibility warning. I will try Rufus utility solution on it.

No reason why it didn't work on your desktop. (for a clean install it is a different workaround).
I have done the upgrade on my desktop without issues.

As many of us has already found out, Win10 21h2 or Win 11 21h2 installed on an incompatible hardware
doesn't upgrade by itself to 22h2.
You have to use the Repair install method or In-Place Upgrade, that is, run setup.exe from a mounted and tweaked Win 11 22h2 iso.
- Download Win 11 22h2 iso from here
- Right click on the Win11_22H2_x64.iso file and select Mount.
- On the virtual drive select ALL files and folders and select copy.
- Create a Win11_22H2 folder. Paste the files on it.
- Make sure "Hide known extensions" is NOT set under Explorer options.
- Go to Win11_22H2\Sources and rename appraiserres.dll to appraiserres.dll.orig
- On Win11_22H2\Sources, create a blank text file and rename to appraiserres.dll
- Run Win11_22H2\Setup.exe
- First, you must disconnect from the internet before attempting to upgrade an unsupported device to 22H2.
- Second, you must choose how Setup checks for updates as 'not for now'.

It will upgrade to Win 11 22h2

Just used these instructions to update my 6-year-old HP Spectre 360 Convertable 13-4001dx from 21H2 to 22H2. it went without incident and quickly. The only difference in my procedure was I could not get the ISO to MOUNT, I "didn't have permission" to do so. Neither doing a right click and choosing MOUNT nor sending it to Windows Explorer worked. I had downloaded the latest Rufus so I built a USB drive with it and then copied all the files off of that, and that worked perfectly. Rufus did the changing of the appraiserres.dll work for me, which was convenient. So thanks to all for your expertise on this update issue.
