I recently bought an HP laptop and aside from the standard power cord it also came with a similar accessory that I don't recognize. Below is an image of it. I was hoping that maybe someone could tell me what it is and does?

Well, it's been my experience that the response rate is very low and it looks like you all really know your stuff so I thought I'd try here.

As far as I know all Notebooks/Laptops come with a power cord and an AC adapter/charger, yours looks a lot like what came with mine. There's not enough room in the computer's case to include a power supply hence the external adapter. It's also difficult to vent the heat generated by it.
