I recently bought an HP laptop and aside from the standard power cord it also came with a similar accessory that I don't recognize. Below is an image of it. I was hoping that maybe someone could tell me what it is and does?

Wouldn't it be a simple matter of visiting HP's website and seeing what comes in the box?

Anyway, that looks like a charger. This is mine from Lenovo.

Well, it's been my experience that the response rate is very low and it looks like you all really know your stuff so I thought I'd try here.

As far as I know all Notebooks/Laptops come with a power cord and an AC adapter/charger, yours looks a lot like what came with mine. There's not enough room in the computer's case to include a power supply hence the external adapter. It's also difficult to vent the heat generated by it.

True, and we thank you (y)..... but I don't need to go to a mechanic to see if I have a flat tire :-)

At any rate, I think we answered the question?
