Windows Secure Boot certificate expiration
Important
Secure Boot certificates used by most Windows devices were set to expire starting in June 2026. Microsoft has been updating these certificates on PCs and non-managed business devices for the past months. Devices that haven’t received the newer certificates will continue to start, and standard Windows updates will continue to install. We will continue to install the newer certificates via Windows updates in the coming months.

End of updates
Windows 11, version 24H2 Home and Pro editions will reach end of updates on October 13, 2026. Devices running these editions will no longer receive fixes for known issues, time zone updates, technical support, or monthly security and preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats. Enterprise and Education editions remain supported until October 12, 2027.

To stay protected and up to date, we recommend you upgrade to the latest version of Windows 11.

How to get this update​

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates.

Deployment​

If you deploy dynamic updates such as this update to an existing Windows image, ensure the boot.stl file is included as part of the installation media. Failure to include the file might prevent devices from successfully starting from the installation media and can result in error code 0xc0430001.

Note
The boot.stl file is used during Secure Boot validation and must match the Windows version and architecture of the image you are updating.

To ensure the boot.stl file is included as part of the installation media, do one of the following:
  • Use the Update WinPE script to update an existing Windows image. (Recommended)
  • Manually copy the boot.stl file from the device Windows\Boot\EFI folder to the corresponding folder on your installation media before deploying the update.

I think I need a group check on my sanity. I have been going nuts over the dism /restorehealth and dism /scanhealth issues. Since an in-place repair does not remedy the issue, I am considering restoring a backup to version 26200.8737, before the error occurred. I would then have to restore personal data and update every app on my computer. Maybe 3 hours of my time. First, has anyone already tried this experiment, and if so, did it succeed? Second, am I crazy to even consider it?

Restoring from a backup, will just take you back in time to the date you made the backup.
Export your bookmarks to an HTML file before you restore.
You might also want to put any save games you may have on a USB stick, till after the restore.

On a side note: I never use DISM... RestoreHealth. It messes up my computer if I run it.

I only use the following things...

1 sfc /scannow
2. Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
3. The In-Place Upgrade
4. or my 3rd party backup software.

I have the same issue. Apparently it's registry corruption that causes the RestoreHealth to fail. Are you getting the "we can't find the files anywhere" error?

If I use Windows Update or install.esd from an ISO made with MCT, I do get that error. If I use install.wim from an ISO made with UUP Dump, the restorehealth scan completes successfully. But then a subsequent scanhealth scan flags the repaired files as corrupt again. All of the so-called corrupt files on all my machines are in the "r" folders inside the component packages. So, they are not actual system files, but reverse differential files. I have done binary comparisons, and they are the same files as found on the UUP Dump ISO. Somewhere along the way, recent updates have corrupted the component store metadata associated with these reverse differentials. I know of no way to fix the metadata, only Microsoft can. And they have not even acknowledged the issue. One advisor at sysnative.com is currently advising just ignoring the errors. But that means scanhealth and restorehealth no longer can be relied on. Of course, even if I restore from a backup, it is entirely possible that the next LCU will cause the same issue.

My problem I'm about 95% sure is in the registry, any repair install won't touch that. I tried a repair with a UUP ISO and the MCT ISO, both completed apparently successfully, but the subsequent ScanHealth fails anyway.

Yes, the corrupt metadata is undoubtedly in the COMPONENTS hive of the registry.

The problem is, finding and removing "only" the corrupt components and not something essential and rendering the system inert! 🤣

I just compared the "corrupt" package entries in the COMPONENTS hive of the .9168 ISO from UUP Dump and the COMPONENTS hive of my system. The hashes and other entries are identical. So, it may be the case that the ISO itself has issues. I have not looked at the hive from an ISO made with MCT. Time for some primal scream therapy!

I chased down this rabbit hole with Google AI for about half an hour, and the final analysis was that the registry was the problem. I decided that it was probably more dangerous to start hacking there than just restoring a backup from earlier and updating it.

I think that only worked up to the first edition of Win98.. if i dont remember wrong.. 98SE didn't have MS-dos you could exit out too, to run the format command... and i dont think you could run format C: in CMD on 98SE...:think:

Sometimes you don't know your system might be wonky until you use something that you don't always use. I got that issue when checking out user account settings. What happened and when is not clear. I went back 2 month's of updates until i got an image without an issue. And yes repair does not change hive settings (but will repair hive corruption). In my case, it might be my own fault because I like to add little tweaks sometimes which might affect areas in the system that I won't suspect.

One note though, MS does recommend to use sfc/scannow after DISM commands Fix Widows Updates and Installation failures.

In an interesting twist, SFC runs error-free against that system image. From what I understand, the issue is in the registry, not the system image. That also explains why a repair install didn't fix it.

I am seeing the dreaded error a lot of users get with DISM and store health. The problem seems to be that DISM stops because it can't find the repair source.
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth reached 100%, but DISM could not locate the component files it needed to repair the Windows component store.
So this is not currently an indication that DISM itself is broken. It's a missing repair-source/content problem.

The important distinction is:
Windows may have component-store corruption - DISM knows it needs repair - but DISM cannot find the required matching files.
I'm creating an ISO just for the sake of seeing what will happen.

I think something is a miss here. Users have been getting a lot of corrupt store messages. It seems that either the necessary files are not kept or there are really corrupt files causing all sorts of issues minor and some major. I myself have just started seeing problems with Snagit. It was fine before update. so I'm digging deeper to see if it's me or the update.

Microsoft Q&A reports specifically describe DISM 26100.x servicing a 26200.x image and the same failure,
including cases where a matching ISO does not resolve it.
There is also a current Microsoft Q&A investigation from June 2026
identifying an out-of-date servicing stack / servicing-engine mismatch as a likely cause of this particular failure.
The proposed mechanism is essentially a servicing deadlock: the component store needs repair,
but the servicing infrastructure itself is behind the OS it is trying to repair.

I created a full iso and did a DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:H:\sources\install.wim:2 /LimitAccess
Same error with files from the original ISO. Go figure. :woozy:

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
The problem appears to be that the information in the registry doesn't match the component store. Since repair installation doesn't fix the registry, you have an infinite loop trying to lose the error!

I tried a repair install with a UUP ISO file and the MCT ISO file, neither were able to repair the error as the repair doesn't fix the problem in the registry. I believe the component store is fine, but Windows doesn't know.

I used it to see what it would do. I don't recommend it either that's why I posted the article link above. But there is a serious problem DISM and system files. Well, not DISM but rather system files. Either that bugged servicing stack a while ago or all that mix of 24H2 files.
