 Microsoft Support:

Announcements and messages

This section provides key notifications related to this release, including announcements, change logs, and end-of-support notices.

Windows Secure Boot certificate expiration
Important

Secure Boot certificates used by most Windows devices were set to expire starting in June 2026. Microsoft has been updating these certificates on PCs and non-managed business devices for the past months. Devices that haven’t received the newer certificates will continue to start, and standard Windows updates will continue to install. We will continue to install the newer certificates via Windows updates in the coming months.

End of updates
Windows 11, version 24H2 Home and Pro editions will reach end of updates on October 13, 2026. Devices running these editions will no longer receive fixes for known issues, time zone updates, technical support, or monthly security and preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats. Enterprise and Education editions remain supported until October 12, 2027.

To stay protected and up to date, we recommend you upgrade to the latest version of Windows 11.

Deployment

If you deploy dynamic updates such as this update to an existing Windows image, ensure the boot.stl file is included as part of the installation media. Failure to include the file might prevent devices from successfully starting from the installation media and can result in error code 0xc0430001.

Note
The boot.stl file is used during Secure Boot validation and must match the Windows version and architecture of the image you are updating.

To ensure the boot.stl file is included as part of the installation media, do one of the following:
  • Use the Update WinPE script to update an existing Windows image. (Recommended)
  • Manually copy the boot.stl file from the device Windows\Boot\EFI folder to the corresponding folder on your installation media before deploying the update.
For information about how to apply Dynamic Update packages to existing Windows images, see Update Windows installation media with Dynamic Update.

Can anyone tell me why component store needs to be repaired every single time a CU is applied?

It doesn't.
It's like dusting. Doesn't need to be done all the time, but it doesn't hurt either. :-)

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
Windows 11 version 25H2 build 26200.9168 now available to download as ISO or USB with MCT.

The ISO created by MCT results in a 0x800f0915 error when dism /restorehealth is run with install.esd as the source. (And I used the correct index.) An ISO created using UUP Dump repaired all so-called corrupt reverse differential files, but then subsequent dism /scanhealth scans failed. I hate to do an in-place repair, but this is driving me nuts! Has anyone fixed this error by doing an in-place repair using a 26200.9168 ISO?

One of the laptops here failed with the .NET update repeatedly. I restored the Macrium back-up I made right before the updates then did the updates again and they all installed without a problem. 🤷‍♂️

I've officially given up on making this issue go away. It's not directly affecting Windows, and even SFC /SCANNOW doesn't show any errors. I don't see anything alarming in the event log, so I'm not sure what DISM is complaining about.

I did a repair install with the Build: 26200.9168 ISO, that all went fine. However, the DISM still can't find it's file, even pointing at the ISO source!

I would assume if a repair install does not fix this issue, DISM could be getting confused and there is not really an error. Still annoying that this error appears, and it seems totally random. I never bothered checking my system with DISM until these issues were reported, now it bothers me.

Now to what is really more important: After this update, they got rid of the OneDrive Photos app that was "accidentally" forced upon us:
They removed it from the Start Menu but the App itself is still there.
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft OneDrive\OneDrive.App.exe", on my Computer anyway!

In the image above windows 11 pro is index 1 because it's the only thing on the ISO I made from UUP. If the index number is different on your ISO you need to enter that number to replace 6 in your original command. If the index number doesn't match what is actually on the ISO the command will fail.

You can also try to run /startcomponentcleanup before you run:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:ESD:C:\Users\My user name\Desktop\W11\sources\install.esd:6 /LimitAccess command
I followed this to a T, and no dice.

I have found that dism /restorehealth will run to completion using an ISO built from UUP Dump as its source, but not with an ISO build using MCT. But even then, a subsequent dism /scanhealth will flag the repaired files as corrupt. The MCT version of the ISO is missing reverse differential "r" subfolders for several component store packages; this prevents dism /restorehealth from completing without error. @gunrunnerjohn, thanks for posting your result. I guess I won't bother trying a repair install.

Building this 26200.9168 from UUP dump took the longest time I have ever experienced with UUP dump processing.
It finally completed, now I will check it out. 😵‍💫🤷‍♂️

Edit:
I made a USB installation media with this UUP dump ISO and the "Repair my PC" works correctly showing the recovery menus, unlike the official Microsoft one that just reboots the main OS. 🤞🤷‍♂️

I tried the repair with both the UUP Dump with only Win11 Pro in the build, and the MCT ISO, same result. I also tried the repair with both of them, and the DISM fails after a successful repair run.

The ISO is much bigger than the Microsoft MCT one because of the different compression used in install.wim versus the install.esd of the MCT one.
Even with only one edition the install.wim is bigger. See the difference below:

@fg2001gf11F its a half joke on a real thing... In windows XP to hide the windows activation program, he took the OS BoB and baked it into the same file to make the file larger to prevent it from being cracked to easy. :-)
So a hidden OS within the OS is not too of a long shoot. 😅

*thinking*........... Give me 10 minutes and i can hide something in it. :sneaky::devilish::lmao:
Looks like a different compression parameter when they create the install.wim, but I cannot figure out which one will produce that size of install.wim. 😵‍💫🤷‍♂️

yeah i know.. I get the same phenomenon when i make my custom Win-ISO's.. when i unpack the .wim file to rip out crap and then compress a new one.. it always becomes a bit bigger even i removed several hundreds of Mbytes :-)
I'm just joking around with an OS put hidden in the install file. 😁
But still its a Big ISO.. i never seen a win ISO bigger then 8ish GB, so they start to get big.. I wonder how big the official MS-release ISO will become.. 9ishGB...

Edit.. its now after 5am over here.. so its time for me to shut down my power-plants and try to get some sleep.
Take care and have a good night sleep when it's time for you.

Perhaps the one in UUP dump gets bigger when they add all the Apps? What could make the install.wim so big ?
Good night!

Edit:
This is from Copilot:
UUP dump produces an install.wim with no optimization, no trimming, and no component cleanup, so the file naturally ends up much larger than anything Microsoft ships in an official ISO.

🔍 High‑impact folders to check

  • Windows\WinSxS This is usually the single largest contributor. UUP‑dump keeps all payloads, including superseded ones.
  • Windows\SystemApps UUP‑dump includes every inbox app. Microsoft’s ISO pipeline strips many of these.
  • Windows\Provisioning Often surprisingly large. Microsoft removes these packages in install.esd.
  • Windows\OptionalFeatures UUP‑dump keeps all optional components, even ones not enabled by default.
  • Windows\Fonts UUP‑dump includes the full font set; Microsoft trims this heavily.
  • Windows\Media Backgrounds, wallpapers, sounds — Microsoft removes most of these.
  • Windows\WinRE UUP‑dump includes the full WinRE payload; Microsoft’s ISO pipeline handles WinRE separately.
