Windows Secure Boot certificate expiration
Important
Secure Boot certificates used by most Windows devices were set to expire starting in June 2026. Microsoft has been updating these certificates on PCs and non-managed business devices for the past months. Devices that haven’t received the newer certificates will continue to start, and standard Windows updates will continue to install. We will continue to install the newer certificates via Windows updates in the coming months.

End of updates
Windows 11, version 24H2 Home and Pro editions will reach end of updates on October 13, 2026. Devices running these editions will no longer receive fixes for known issues, time zone updates, technical support, or monthly security and preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats. Enterprise and Education editions remain supported until October 12, 2027.

To stay protected and up to date, we recommend you upgrade to the latest version of Windows 11.

AI components
This release updates the following AI components to version 1.2605.856.0: Image Search, Content Extraction, Semantic Analysis, and Settings Model. To learn more, see Release information for AI components.

Servicing stack update
Includes KB5123304 (Build 26100.9156), which improves the reliability of the Windows update installation process. To learn more about SSUs, see Simplifying on-premises deployment of servicing stack updates.

Known issues in this update​

Symptoms

Microsoft received reports of issues involving inability to run certain games as expected after installing this update.

Ongoing investigation indicates that this issue is associated with certain peripherals or internal device components that support RGB lighting features. These devices might install drivers or software components with file names similar to inpoutx64. On systems where these drivers are found, launching certain games can trigger this issue.

Games identified in reports of this issue include ARC Raiders, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and THE FINALS. Reported symptoms include:
  • the game application becomes unresponsive
  • the game application closes without notice
  • the error "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" is displayed
  • the device restarts without warning

Resolution

This issue is resolved by a block that prevents the inpoutx64 driver from loading on affected devices. When the block is applied, a message is displayed that states the driver has been disabled, after which the game will launch normally.

This resolution is available automatically to consumer and business devices that are not managed by IT departments. For enterprise-managed devices, the mitigation will not propagate automatically. IT administrators can follow the steps in the workaround section on the Windows release health site.

How to get this update​

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates.

Deployment​

If you deploy dynamic updates such as this update to an existing Windows image, ensure the boot.stl file is included as part of the installation media. Failure to include the file might prevent devices from successfully starting from the installation media and can result in error code 0xc0430001.

Note
The boot.stl file is used during Secure Boot validation and must match the Windows version and architecture of the image you are updating.

To ensure the boot.stl file is included as part of the installation media, do one of the following:
  • Use the Update WinPE script to update an existing Windows image. (Recommended)
  • Manually copy the boot.stl file from the device Windows\Boot\EFI folder to the corresponding folder on your installation media before deploying the update.

That and sfc /scannow are at a much lower level than some of tools in the recently released in the Windows Performance Analyzer (preview version) from MS with complex analytical functionality.

My experience is that the sfc and dism commands don't find deep seated issues with Windows so are of limited use.

SFC just scans and repairs individual protected system files. To fix damaged files, it pulls healthy copies from the the component store (WinSxS).

Now if the component store (WinSxS) itself is damaged or corrupted, SFC cannot repair your files properly and may fail or it may even make incorrect repairs by using corrupted files.

That is the reason Microsoft says to run scanhealth first and if that reports the component store is repairable then run restore health as then SFC will have healthy copies of files to get from WinSxS to make system files repairs with.

These tools look for specific issues, notably corrupted files in the component store and the running Windows system files. There are many other categories of problems that they would have no effect on.

You don’t need to run DISM and SFC after Windows Update. Windows Update already validates component‑store integrity before installing updates. Running them is harmless, but it’s redundant.

About the only time I run them is before creating a backup image to make sure I am not backing up a corrupted system.

From other reading, it's supposed to be a known issue on Dell PC's with a TPM made by STMicroelectronics. Which is a lot of PC's.

I get the event on a 2 year old PC. I also had issues with a 2019 Dell Inspiron 5459 that froze after 5 minutes of use. I disable TPM and secure boot. Problem solved. I might get my bios hijacked and my camping pictures spread on the net, but it's a risk I'm willing to take. 😶‍🌫️

For now, the workaround is to disable the Secure-Boot-Update task (which runs 5 min. after boot).

1. Run as Admin:

schtasks /change /disable /tn "\Microsoft\Windows\PI\Secure-Boot-Update"

2. Enable Secure Boot & TPM. Presuming you're done with Secure Boot updates, you can live without the task. It just means Windows won't automatically push updates like a newer boot manager, but my update script can do that without the task's help.

The task isn't doing anything wrong, except it triggers a TPM attestation as part of its data gathering process.

From other reading, it's supposed to be a known issue on Dell PC's with a TPM made by STMicroelectronics. Which is a lot of PC's.

Mine is a home-built pc, no Dell componets, and I randomnly receive this error in Event Viewer. I have always stayed on the Release previe build assuming this was the least affected by odd bugs, but it seems like each version has the same or similar bugs these days. oddly my unsupported PC on the same build as my main PC has no issues.

I wish I had never heard about Event Viewer all those years ago during my MCSE training

I also have this error (randomly appeared) to my dell laptop and to my custom desktop PC (amd Ryzen 5800x, asus rog strix x570f) as well...i just ignore it.. It was definitely triggered after recent windows updates (since June's/July's updates I think).. it's harmless and nothing to worry about...just another windows update bug!

LOL, almost every app and configuration change modifies Windows components unless you leave your PC setup like you got it right out of the box. I recently discovered my Logitech mouse software was breaking and freezing portions of the Windows Settings app and I had to reconfigure it but it's not like I was using some experimental software and hardware. All software and hardware venders can miss an unknown bug and MS sure misses it's share even on public builds.

I had the DISM bug on one machine for one build but was able to repair mine with an ISO repair install. That bug has gone viral now for various users, builds, and machines and it's not always the users fault.

Never tried it, didn't even know it existed. I'm surprised there's two different repair applications, could one just be an interface to a common procedure?
