I just downloaded and installed the 23.11.1 driver, rebooted, and Device Mgr. is showing this:

I don't understand why the driver version number is so different. Whatever it is seems to work OK, but shouldn't the numbers match the downloaded driver number?

Adrenalin is package of drivers including for digital sound and control software so each part has own driver with different number. You can see that in unpacked folder C:\AMD

Yes, I know about all the stuff in the download. But all I wanted to install is the graphics driver, so I made sure to specify the "driver only" option when I ran the installer.

Does that mean I don't need all the stuff in the AMD directory? Can I delete it?

It deletes itself but if doesn't you can delete it manually

There are a lot of nooks and crannies in Windows hiding data and files, specially in Users and Documents folder but in other places too. Just recently I found that any screen shots are saved in Users>account name>Pictures>Screenshots even if these are saved somewhere else.

After not giving me the last 2 updates on my 4650G this one downloaded and installed so maybe it's still supported.

There I was, content that my System One's Radeon graphics were now deemed as 'Legacy' and that my days of getting Adrenalin updates were behind me, when along comes 23.11.1 and my Adrenalin shows it as available to install. It installed successfully and apparently worked well.

Then one small 'issue' gradually became apparent, I slowly realised that it was now taking an inordinate amount of time to boot up (a gradual realisation because a reboot is something I rarely do, I usually just hibernate the PC). I installed the Windows Performance Toolkit and analysed the results. While I'm no expert on WPT diagnosis like @zinou it was obvious even to me that the Session Manager Subsystem initialisation was taking far too long, measured in minutes rather than seconds as it should be. What was holding it up was far from obvious.

More by luck than judgement I found that uninstalling Adrenalin and all its drivers restored normal booting. Reinstalling 23.11.1 slowed it down again. By a process of elimination I found that the newest version I could now install was Adrenalin Edition 23.7.1 from 26 June 2023. So I'm sticking at that and never going to let it update itself again :wink:

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

Yes- I found that issue. I went the other route and went back to letting WU take care of it and re-enabled driver updates. Enough is enough with faffing about. :rolleyes:

Thanks. Glad to hear I'm not the only one. I'm keeping Adrenalin because I like to use its Radeon Virtual Super Resolution funtion.

It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

Thanks for the clue that it's a common fault. Apparently it's been present in Adrenalin since 23.9.x, and apparently there is also a simple fix to get boot times back to normal.

the actual and only cause of slow boot was the automatic downgrade of AMD Audio CoProcesssor from 2.89.0.62 to 2.89.0.61 performed by all the releases of AMD Adrenaline to this date.

If you install Adrenaline then update the audio coprocessor driver by device manager ("Update driver" > "Search automatically for driver") the boot is totally smooth....

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October.
