Latest Intel Management Engine Driver

Just to help out others, when the Intel Management Engine is installed, Simple Communications Controller Driver may be replaced by Unknown Device in Device Manager.

Installing the NXPNearFieldProximity Provider Driver addresses the issue.

Is it risky to install this driver from Intel's website instead of my manufacturer's (Gigabyte)? My manufarcturer's support page has a way older version of the Intel Management Engine driver, hence me asking.

Hello Johnny,

It is if you have a supported processor. To be extra safe, you can create a restore point before installing the driver. If it should cause issues, you could do a quick system restore using the restore point to undo it.

It's not risky (unless it's faulty/corrupted) - but it can be limiting, since the OEM (Gigabyte in your case) - tend to bundle other features with that driver - and those won't work (or be available) - if you use the version from Intel.

On the other hand, there's the possibility to be at risk - if you have an older Firmware that's not yet patched by Gigabyte (Intel can't help you with that - if you ask for support they'll direct you to Gigabyte support page). Here's a tool which shows if your system is vulnerable.

It needs Intel Management Engine Driver to be installed - to be able to work (be it the one from Gigabyte or Intel) - since that's what it will use to access the firmware and check/see what you have installed. If the firmware is patched - it's irrelevant if the Driver is part of an older version - since those known vulnerabilities can't be exploited anymore.

What is the correct method for installing this? Intel i7-8750H Coffee Lake CPU on Windows 11.

I already have the Intel Driver and Support Asisstant,, been using it since I installed my Asus Z790 Motherboard... seems a little redundant. This is basically the latest version... nothing new... unless for some reason, some users never installed it in their Intel products... I thought i was all up to date, seems like the latest did take this update.
