Are there others having issue with the latest Macrium Reflect, that it shows on launch: "Your license is not registered to this hardware"? There hasn't been any change to components. Only Windows Cumulative/Preview Cumulative 24H2 upgrades.

That has nothing to do with the latest update, it has been seen by some before. This was back in November last year....

Ok, its that issue with MAC address then, because I did changes to Hyper-V Switch to configure more interfaces for Hyper-V and WSL, and also changed default external interface.

Yes, that would be it. The only time I've seen it myself was after reconfiguring a Hyper-V switch on my machine.

I did "Help/Update license key..." and rebooted machine, it didn't show key issue any more.

I'm having the same issue but I think it's because I'm using bleachbit. I'll have to check to see if a setting is deleted, not sure.

Doing that Update license key... didnt work after all. Using it works for a short period of time, like a day. And its sunday so support isn't at work I guess. Left a ticket to Macrium. But I did read this MAC override as posted to the thread. Downloaded the binary and I did that registry key add. It might even work... let's see. MAC address for Ethernet adapter and vEthernet adapter (External) have identical MAC addresses, whats different is what GUID they have. So I think it uses GUID to sort out who is who.

Today, about a day later, I did cold boot and no more that "Update license key..." dialog when starting Macrium Reflect X. I did download that binary what was posted on Macrium Forum thread and added one register key with MAC address of Ethernet External and vEthernet External.

Hi there, after lots of deliberation and reading over the past few weeks, I decided to buy Actium Relfect X. Its just getting (what feels like) impossible to get hold of 8.1 without jumping through a lot of hoops I cant be bothered to navigate.

My simple question is whether the Macrium guides here Macrium Reflect, AOMEI Backupper and Hasleo Backup Suite - GUIDES hold true for Maxcrium X or whether I need to look elsewhere for X guides.

My needs are simple - i just want to do occasional backups of my OS drive and know I can restore if needed (so test it)

I have both, I traded in a recently bought v8 licence for a 3-year Reflect X licence, but still use other v8 licences on my other machines.

There is little difference between the user interface for Reflect X and v8, the guide should be good for both.

Cheers Bree. You are of course correct having now completed a few backups using X. Its basically identical (for that purpose.

What I was blown away by was its speed.

I created an image of my OS drive, which admittedly is quite young, but its got almost all of the programmes I would want to install on it. it took 26 seconds to build and copy to my D drive. Its a 65Gb OS at the moment.

Previously was using Acronis True Image before purchasing Macrium Reflect X around February 2025, lost the young image i had of my OS Drive due to Problem with Acronis that turned out to be related to Malwarebytes in the end. As Support had me Reformat the backup drive at first, as well as perform long chkdsk scan of the 8TB drive lol.

Should i Still Image my OS Drive with Macrium Reflect X? i've done the OS drive a few times since February.

Or should i sometime do a clean install of OS, or wait til i can afford a 2TB Game NVMe, then clean up system then

My simple view of this would be - what would you want to be putting back on to your OS drive in the event of an emergent issue?

Ive currently got about 4 backups imaged since building my PC. One of those backups is made about 10 minutes after I did a clean install of W11. But would I want that image back on my OS drive? nope. i want the latest most stable image put back.

Dont get me wrong its helpful to have an image just after a clean install as it saves a bucketload of time....but right now my image of a clean install, plus all my device drivers and all the programmes I frequently use is much more useful as the restore point to me.

So whats stopping you imaging now via Macrium X? Its just a few mins effort.

Then when you get your new gaming SSD, if you are going to dop a clean install at that point then you can take some snapshots during that process.

Ive just done similar. Ive got a 2Tb OS drive and a 4Tb gaming drive which is mostly Steam and Battlenet games. I also use the same drive for keeping my OS images on (as well as lobbing them onto my NAS now and then)

Im honestly also wondering if I should be making better use of the 2Tb OS drive....Im currently using a whopping 64Gb of it...there must be something else I can do with it...

Me too. What you may not have noticed yet is that the images are smaller too.

I've run v8/X direct comparisons a couple of time now, details in post #338

Nothing stopping me from imaging OS Drive now at all, will get that done asap in that case then. --system is nice and stable at this point, and drivers all up to date, and should be all fine.

When i do eventually get the 2TB NVMe to use as new Game NVMe, then will probably do a full clean install at that point i think

With Image snapshots taken at various points in that process like i normally do

Look at us justifying the cost of X!

My 64 Gb OS drive is a 22.4Gb image which took 26 secs to make/copy. Thats pretty nice.
