We now know the trade in offers that will be available to those with older V8, v7, and v6 one-time licences, and for recently purchased perpetual v8 licences.

If you purchased on or after July 1st, 2024, you have three options;
  • Continue using Reflect 8 for as long as you want. You will continue to have access to 12 months technical support from the date you bought the licenses.
  • Trade in (your existing license will be deactivated after your new license is activated) your one-time license (which has one year of support from the date of purchase) and receive a 3-year Annual Plan at no extra cost. Macrium may make loyalty offers available at the end of your 3-year term. However, even without a license, Reflect always allows you to restore/recover your data (you won’t be able to make new backups). We’ve also made your backup files open-source - it’s your data and you own it.
  • NEW: Trade in (your existing license will be deactivated after your new license is activated) your one-time license (which has one year support from the date of purchase) and receive 50% off the normal annual plan price for life (must turn on auto-renew and not allow the license to expire/lapse).
Home users have 6 months from the launch of Reflect X to decide which option suits them best. Step-by-step instructions to obtain either option from the grace period will be published this week.

For Reflect Home users who purchased V8 before July 1, 2024:
You are eligible for two options. The first option is 50% off Annual plans for life. Option 2 is our “Better than Black Friday 2024 Offer:” 3 years for the price of 2:

If you choose 50% off annual plans for life, you will have to trade in your current Reflect Home V8 license.

If you choose 3 years for the price of 2, you can keep your Reflect Home V8 license. This amount must be paid up front and at the end of the plan, customers may renew based on offers available at the time (or return to your one-time license.)

For Home V6 & V7: We are offering 3 years for the price of two. This amount must be paid up front and at the end of the plan, customers may renew based on offers available at the time (or return to your one-time license.)This offer ends March 31st 2025.

The offer on the left is £133.84 (£44.61 per year) keeping my v8 licenses and the offer on the right is £36.99 per year trading them in.

Sorry, my mistake, I didn't spot that you were purchasing an additional 4-pack. In this case we'll just have to wait and see what loyalty offers may (or may not) be available after 3 years. The trade-in is the only one that gets the 50% discount for life.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
Having trialled v10 I can't see any point in paying more so I will probably run the trial until it expires and then make my mind up. Backups take four minutes instead of seven - big deal! :-)

I haven't tried any restores yet. I have v10 on Windows, as a Macrium PE boot option and on a USB SSD. So I shall test restores using each option.
I see it still does not work properly if you don't have an external mouse on a laptop. I guess if I used the RE instead of PE for the WIM it might. I had to buy a USB mouse.

The three-year annual plan is slightly more expensive, BUT, if I stop paying the subscription in the future I can still use my v8 licenses for backups which I couldn't with the other offer.

It would be cheaper for me to use PayPal and convert currency to US dollars first as I would pay about $40 more if i pay in Canadian dollars directly through the Macrium website. (Their Currency converter sucks big time)

On a side note it would be nice to only upgrade 1 licence and keep my 4 pack but it seems you have to upgrade all 4 keys for any discount.

Honestly wish i could afford Reflect X, even with the trade in option for my old Reflect 8 Keys, that i purchaed in April 2020. Suppose i guess i can try to get it later on, as of right now gotta save money a bit.

As I only have one licence, I've traded it for 50% off annual sub. For £18.99 a year that works out at £57 over three years, about the same as a full licence cost back in 2021.

I was expecting it to cost a lot more, I guess without trading in the V8 licence it's quite expensive

Just upgraded, got the $25 year half price lifetime. Great price!

My backup time actually increased by about one minute. From 1:42 to 2:44, for a 227gb file. However, the resources used were really cut in half! V8 would push my machine to the limit on temps, usually 88c-98c during the run. Now it's way down to 58c-68c. Much more acceptable!

The I/O performance was....... Read 39.9Gb/s Write 11.8Gb/s.

I ran a full backup of my C drive, it was VERY Fast! Certainly felt like 2x the previous speed.

Created rescue media, tested that it boots. All good so far 👍

The Exclusions list shows 6GB in my recycle bin but there most definitely isn't! The image was ~5GB smaller with that ticked, weird 🤔

EaseUS Todo is faster than Macrium Reflect X. It's £42 for life. Hasleo is just as fast and it's free! (on my system, yours may be different).

Obviously, Macrium is widely trusted and may be faster on restores. But if restores take only minutes today does it matter if it's five minutes or three minutes???

Got it. Full system backup with 128bit encryption and compression in 24 seconds I was getting 40 seconds with V8. Impressive.

I upgraded a v7 licence to a v8 license yesterday expecting to be able to trade it for a 3 year Reflect X plan. I have only been offered a 33% discount for X. I'm therefore going to claim a refund under the Macrium money bcak gurantee and will stay on Reflect 8 until there is a better offer. I also don't like the contractual terms to sign up to a recurring 3 year deal.

I just ran the trial and it saved me about 5 seconds on 60 seconds - completely underwhelmed by it.

Not worth the money in my opinion.

Auf Wiedersehen, Farvel, Sionayra, Au Revoir, Dos Vidanya to VX.

I was getting ~1GB/sec but with VX it's over 3GB/sec. Same source and destination disks

As is my normal practice, I make a full image of my machines each Patch Tuesday after updating/cleaning up. This Patch Tuesday I backed up one of my machines twice, once with Reflect v8, then again after upgrading to Reflect X. This was my Hyper-V host machine, with all the VMs I have on it there are some 334GB to image. Despite being my fastest machine, it is also the slowest to image.

The source disk is a NVMe KIOXIA 512GB.
The same destination disk was used for both images, a TOSHIBA MQ01ABD100 external USB 3.0 HDD.
The Reflect settings were the same both times, maximum compression and verification was selected.

The Reflect X image and verification was 20 minutes faster and some 12GB smaller than that of Reflect v8. Not the 2x speed increase Macrium have claimed, but then verification was a significant part of both times. I don't really see how verification could be made any faster - it has to read the whole of the image file from the external HDD to calculate the hash sums it uses to verify the backup.

EDIT: I have just ran verification on its own. It took 25 minutes. So for Reflect X that make the time just for making the image 26 minutes, and for Reflect v8 with some 9% more to verify would have been a little over 27 minutes, so its imaging would have been about 43 minutes. That makes Reflect X about 1.7 times faster for imaging.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
I updated my 4 pack 8.1 to VX. The subscription price was $49.99 USD for 4 licenses. I liked that for a subscription price that will never change and always be up to date.

I did my first image with VX and was a bit disappointed. My speed with 8.1 to image my C: drive was 00:05:30. VX did the same image in 00:05:00.

I save to two Samsung T9 4TB SSD drives using a Thunderbolt 4 port, rotating 7 images on each SSD. I was expecting something more like 00:02:75. Double Dog Darn.
