Same here. I don't see any reason to rush out and purchase X when 8 is working fine. I'll make a decision on whether to upgrade later.

I have a number of subscriptions that I wouldn't be without. For me, if the value is there, I subscribe. I really don't care what others think.

Totally agree. I have an annual sub for Nero software and now Macrium.
Macrium is one application I can't do without

I stopped subscribing to TV streaming ages ago when the prices went up. Netflix and Disney are not worth the money. I have Prime for the delivery service and pay for ad-free on Prime Video

Like you say, value is subjective. Macrium cost me the price of a Domino's pizza! £19 per year is a massive £1.58 per month

So, what's the reason to rush to an annual license subscription when you already have a perpetual license?

I think it was mentioned in a previous post somewhere, but I can't find it right now.

Well, I bit the bullet and upgraded my single licence in exchange for 50% off lifetime annual licence. Cost me £18.49. That works out at £1.55 a month. So far, I like Macrium Reflect X. The full backup saves me around 10 seconds, It used to take approx 1 minute 14 seconds and now is taking 1m 04 seconds. But the restore only took 15 seconds where it used to take 4 minutes or so. Admittedly, that was restoring a backup I had just made, so probably didn't have much to change. It is still very familiar to version 8.1 and the upgrade was very smooth and painless.

For me and my one machine with a seriously large image Reflect X is 20 minutes faster than v8. See my post #59.

The Reflect X image and verification was 20 minutes faster and some 12GB smaller than that of Reflect v8. Not the 2x speed increase Macrium have claimed, but then verification was a significant part of both times. I don't really see how verification could be made any faster - it has to read the whole of the image file from the external HDD to calculate the hash sums it uses to verify the backup.

EDIT: I have just ran verification on its own. It took 25 minutes. So for Reflect X that make the time just for making the image 26 minutes, and for Reflect v8 with some 9% more to verify would have been a little over 27 minutes, so its imaging would have been about 43 minutes. That makes Reflect X about 1.7 times faster for imaging.

I would be interested in a comparison with the default compression setting. And do you think a USB 3.1 SSD would be a lot quicker?

Hi everyone. First time poster, long time lurker. I've been following the drama of Reflect going subscription-only for a while and yesterday I gave it a try (on a VM). Restore failed.

Image verifies successfully though. And Reflect 8 works as expected on the exact same system. Mmmm.

You do realise that with an image this large it will take an hour of my time to get the results? I'll see what I can do.....

Yes, an external SSD should be faster, in particular for the verification pass. I would expect the imaging to be faster too, maybe not by so much. It really depends on which is the limiting factor for imaging speed, the compression and processing, or writing to the external drive. That's very much machine-specific, your Pentium Silver N6000 has a benchmark about half that of my i7-10610U.

Thanks. I saw write speeds close to 2 Gb/s with X. So, if you turn off verification it should only take 22 minutes!

The lower compression should shorten your backup.

With X I'm seeing speeds of 10 to 12.5 Gb/s. I'm imaging my C: drive that is currently 301GB. I'm writing to a Samsung T9 4TB SSD on a Thunderbolt 4 port. My image is averaging 5 minutes to make. My PC specs are in "My Computer" below. My compression is Medium (recommended).
