Solved Location of Windows RE Recovery Partition?

I just clean installed W11 which put the recovery partition at the end of the drive preceded by a large 2TB system partition (drive C:). I want to shrink C: to 250 GB and create a new 1.75GB partition (D:) for data in the free space. This will leave the recovery partition untouched at the end of the drive. I know how to reassign the recovery partition using reagentc commands. Will this disk layout create any future problems?

No.
You'll be fine.
Windows will remember where the Recovery partition is located.


Use a program like Minitool Partition Wizard (free), and do this...

1. After install, right click the C:\ partition and choose: Move/Resize
2. Shrink the C:\ partition (to the left), to 250GB.
3. "Apply" that change. Computer will need to reboot to accomplish that.
4. When that's finished, use Minitool again. Right click the unallocated space and choose: Create Partition.
5. Make it a Primary partition / NTFS... etc., and "Apply" that change.

That's pretty much all there is to it.

Before you do the changes, I recommend you run following from admin command prompt


That temporarily parks the winre.wim file on C drive.

Then make changes and run


Check if it has enabled with


If it still says disabled, you will need to to assign a drive letter (r in example) and run


To temporarily assign a drive letter, easiest way is with diskpart or tool like minitool partition wizard free.

Then run


and re-check if it has enabled with

All done!
