Lotus 123

I remember being stunned by the capabilities of 1-2-3 back in '98 and I've stuck with it ever since, right through to Win 11. Sure it has been necessary to use Excel too over the years but 1-2-3 has remained my spreadsheet of choice and one of the reasons is its acceptance of text inside formulae. Try +"apples"+2+"pears"+3 in any other spreadsheet and see what you get! In complex sheets that's an essential in my book.

Hi,
today i installed Lotus Word Pro on a Windows 11 computer.

I started the setup with the .msi file and it stopped at the first dialog with the disabled Next button.

Then I started the TaskManager and sorted him by the CPU column in ascending order. There were three entries with the Lotus Word Pro setup. After I finished the setup-program on top of the list and waited a bit, I was able to run the setup normally until the end.

Dear friends, I have been using Lotus 123 since approximately 1982 - can't remember the exact version but it came on 4.5" floppie discs... Going through all the updates and versions, now I use it at the office with Windows 10 and at home on a tablet with Windows 11. Using millenium version 9.8 now.
I had a few hics installing Lotus on Windows 11 but I installed the suggested updated drivers and it all works...

Realized this is an old thread, but incase anyone is still monitoring, I'm also using 123 as my primary spreadsheet.

The main reasons are (1) that I've developed so many 123 spreadsheets over the years and (2) nearly all use macros (some have extensive complex macros) and can't be used on Excel. Been using Lotus since 1993 or 94 on an old Compaq "portable".

I m probably biased but I'd run all these old apps on a VM then they will continue working indefinitely whatever updates etc Windows throws out at you.

There are some features of Office 2010 that I still prefer to the latest Office 2022 - running Office 2010 on a small Windows VM makes perfect sense as then you can have both versions of office running concurrently -- also in different languages if needed instead of having to change language and re-boot.

Also gets round problems of which versions of Net to install. the other "C++ redistributable" things and even old direct-X things which some old programs want.

cheers

The only real issue with Lotus SmartSuite 97 and 98 is they don't work with the newer format of Microsoft Office 2007 and later, denoted by the trailing x on the file extensions [but then neither do Microsoft Office 2000, 2002/XP and 2003 without the Compatibility Pack].
