Looking at Newegg.com, 500-512MB NVME M.2 cards start at around $50 US. You could also go to a 3000 series CPU, which would make the PC compliant with Win11 requirements.

And going along with what geneo said - there is always going to be a new standard around the corner or in development. And waiting can get you into a pickle all on its own.

I built my rig last year - only things I did not upgrade were my video card and my monitors - because I knew the nVidia 30x0 line was literally around the corner. So I stuck with my 970 thinking I could wait a couple of months and get a nice, shiny new card with beefier specs for the same (or similar) retail price of a current gen S0x0 Ti card.

Yeah. About that.

I'm still rocking my 970. We ALL know the shitshow that last year's paper launches for video cards was.

There is always going to be something new. Doesn't mean you don't just pick a time and buy what you need or want now.

Granted, my situation is not something that will happen to everyone. I chose to wait - and now I'm choosing to wait until a 40x0 launch, unless I can get a 3080 Ti / 3090 under MSRP. And, as always, YMMV. But I replaed a system that officially wasn't even supposed ot be able to run Windows 10, to begin with, so....

You are 100% exactly right bud! My Federal Court is about 7 months behind due to Covid. My attorney told me that it will definitely not be until sometime in 2022 before my case goes before a federal judge. . . . . . .. I filed my disability in June of 2018. It would have been completed by now if not for Covid.

Applying for disability has always been a slow process. You applied in 2018 and that was way before the pandemic. A large number of people get denied and have to file a appeal. Seeing you are waiting for a Federal Judge I take it you were denied and your lawyer filed a appeal.

Yep. The SSA judge denied me, so we appealed it 3 times to the appeals people in Virginia, they denied it, so my attorney has filed in federal court.

I fitted a WD Black M2 500 Gb in place of a Samsung 850 evo, the difference can be detected best by one of the speed test programmes, which show an increase of about 3 times the speed. My motherboard does not support the maximum speed that the M2 can handle.

I think you'd need an AMD system with a recent chipset (X570 is one) and CPU (3000 or 5000 series). A quick search suggests you'd need an Intel Z490 (with an updated BIOS) or Z590 motherboards and an 11th gen CPU ("rocket lake") to enable PCI-E 4.0 with an Intel PC.

AMD was first to market with PCI-E 4.0, as they were with X64 CPUs. Not touting AMD (although my two desktops are AMD at the moment). It's just history.
