I am using Macrium Reflect 8 Free to do my backup images. When I boot to my recovery disk do a restore I have a list of current drives with images along with a list of drives/folders that I have used in the past but are no longer used. How do I get rid of these unused drives/folders permanently? Even if I delete them they come right back the next time I boot into the recovery environment. Maybe I am missing a step. Any help appreciated.

Which version? The last update for Reflect Free, v8.0.7783, had a fix specifically for the rescue media's auto-populating the 'Existing Backups' view.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

I am using Version 7690. If I do the upgrade do you think I will need to recreate my USB boot drive? Not sure if the info is stored in the software or the boot drive. Thanks

Yes, you should make a new rescue USB after the update. Perhaps on another USB so you can have both the old and new and compare their behaviour.

Click on Updates. It should offer the v8.0.7783.
It will download to AppData/Local/Temp.
If you wan't to copy the file and rename it for future use. Do this before the installer runs.

Thanks I just did the update to V7783. I think I will make a new rescue drive and do a comparison just to see if the old rescue drive works with the newer software version.

It will. The .mrimg format remained virtually unchanged up to the last v8.1 build. I have restored v8.1 images using a v7.2 rescue USB.

A new open-source .mrimgx format was introduced with Reflect X, but Reflect X can still restore images from the older versions.

I ended up upgrading to the latest build 7783 and making a new USB recovery disk from that build to get rid of all of the old image locations. If I booted from the build 7690 recovery disk all of the old locations were still there. Now when I boot into the recovery environment I only see my D: backup drive and all of my images are right on the main screen for easy selection. No more searching around to find the images. Thanks a million for pointing me in the right direction. (y)

You'll be pleased to know that I've just successfully tested Reflect Free v8.0.7783 in the latest Insider Canary build 28000.1199, version 26H1. It still performs flawlessly, which bodes well for it's future longevity. (y)
